Professor Vinay Kumar is the Alice Hogge & Arthur Baer Professor of Pathology at the University of Chicago, where he is the Chair of the Department of Pathology and Vice Dean of the Division of Biological Sciences Born in India in 1944, Dr. Kumar graduated with honors, at the age of 17, from Poona University. He earned his MBBS, at the age of 22, from Punjab University Medical College, in Amritsar, where he was named “Best Medical Graduate” for that year, winning the Pfizer Award and the Gold Medal for highest achievement as a medical student. He completed both his PhD in experimental pathology and his residency in anatomic pathology and hematology in 1972 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, where he was awarded the Khanolkar Prize for outstanding research in pathology. An authority on the cellular and molecular biology of natural killer cells, Dr Kumar has been a leader in understanding the origin and differentiation of these cells and their role in the rejection of transplanted bone marrow. He is also an author of Basic Pathology, one of the best selling texts in the field. The author or co-author of five pathology textbooks and teaching aids, Dr. Kumar has published more than 100 original articles in scientific journals, a dozen book chapters, and nearly 20 review articles. He has lectured throughout the U.S. and Europe, served on the editorial boards of several journals, including the Journal of Immunology, and has also completed his term as president of the American Society of Investigative Pathology.

Professor Nirmal Kumar Ganguly, is the President of the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), as well as that of the Asian Institute of Public Health, Bhubaneswar, Orissa. He is the former Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi; former Director, PGIMER (Chandigarh); and former Director National Institute of Biologicals (Noida). Prof Ganguly has published numerous papers and guided doctoral projects. His major research areas are tropical diseases, cardiovascular diseases and diarrhoeal diseases. Prof. Ganguly is Fellow, Imperial College Faculty of Medicine, London; Royal College of Pathologists, London; International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences, Canada; Third World Academy of Sciences, Italy; and International Medical Sciences Academy, New Delhi. He is also Fellow, National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi; Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi; National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad; and the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore. He is Member of the Advisory Group, Cholera Vaccine Investment Case Preparation, International Vaccine Institute, Seoul, South Korea. He is also Member, Global Access Advisory Committee, University of Western Ontario, Canada; Worldwide Anti-malarial Resistance Network (WWARN), Centre for Tropical Medicine, University of Oxford, U.K., and Asian AIDS Vaccine Network Task Force, WHO, Geneva, Switzerland. He has received several International and National Awards, including the prestigious Padma Bhushan Award by Her Excellency, the President of India on 26th January, 2008 in the field of “Medicine”.

Dr. Lalji Singh is currently the 25th Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi. Dr. Singh is one of the premier scientists of India and as Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University, Dr. Singh currently has a focus on creating central facilities for translational research, biological containment for infectious diseases and regenerative medicine (stem cell research and transplant). He also holds the position of Bhatnagar Fellow of CSIR at Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, of which he has been the Director for a long period of 11 years from 1998 to 2009. Dr Lalji Singh obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. (Cytogenetics) from Banaras Hindu University, which later awarded him honorary degree of D.Sc. in the year 2004 and its Distinguished Alumnus Award in the year 2009. He also holds fellowships of several Indian and Foreign academies. Dr. Singh has an exemplary research and professional experience of around 45 years, during which he has published more than 219 research papers in internationally reputed journals, including a full article in 'Nature' (2009) which has been also featured on the cover page of 'Nature'. His research interests include Molecular basis of Sex-determination; DNA Fingerprinting and genetic diversity; Wildlife Conservation; Human Genome Analysis and Ancient DNA Studies. Dr Lalji Singh had proposed, pursued and established a new centre, the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) at Hyderabad under the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. Based on the studies of Dr Lalji Singh and his colleagues on Wildlife Conservation, Government of India had set up a "Laboratory for the Conservation of Endangered Species (LaCONES)" in Hyderabad in collaboration with the Central Zoo Authority of India, New Delhi, the Dept. of Forests, Govt. of A.P, Hyderabad; the Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad and the Dept. of Biotechnology (DBT), New Delhi. For regenerative medicine, Dr Singh had setup 'Clinical Research Facility (CRF)' in collaboration with NIMS in the campus of CCMB Annexe II. He is founder of 'Genome Foundation', a non-profit-making organization. The social impact of some of the research works carried out by Dr. Singh include development of a Universal Probe for DNA fingerprinting, conservation of wildlife, species identification for forensic applications, DNA based molecular diagnostics and work on genetic affinities of Andaman islanders. The contribution of Dr. Lalji Singh has been profusely awarded including the prestigious "Padmashri" by President of India in 2004.

Dr. I.C. Verma is the Chairperson at the Centre of Medical Genetics, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi and a towering figure in Pediatrics and Genetics globally. He is Fellow of Royal College of Physicians, London, American Academy of Pediatrics and National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He has been the President of Indian Society of Human Genetics, Member of the Task Force on Genetics of the Indian Council of Medical Research and Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. He established the first Genetic Counseling center and Genetic Laboratory in India in 1967. He did pioneering studies to determine the frequency of genetic disorders in India, set up molecular diagnosis of thalassemia, muscular dystrophy and many other single gene disorders. He has been an Adviser in genetics to W.H.O. in Geneva for several years and is a member of Ethics committee of HUGO. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Journal of Pediatrics for past 25 years. For his research contributions in genetics in India he has been honored with many national awards including Ranbaxy Science Foundation, ICMR, NAMS and Dr. BC Roy award of the Medical Council of India.
