I am very excited about this year’s Arts Council board! We have some
new faces and great ideas. I is wonderful to see the passion this board
has for the arts. If you could not make it to our last meeting in February,
but are still interested in becoming a part of the Arts Council board, our
next meeting will be on Monday, March 13th. We have moved the time
up to 6pm and will be meeting in room #138 at Felix Martin Hall/West
Campus. You may enter through the front door of Felix Martin Jr. Hall or
through entrance #14 which can be found around the backside of Felix
Martin Jr. Hall. Check out the rest of the newsletter to see all that is hap-
pening in the arts this month. As always, thank you for supporting the
arts in our community and for working together to keep the arts alive!

The Muhlenberg Arts Council will be hosting its third annual Young Artist
Showcase this month at the Thistle Cottage. We will be having an open
house and awards on Monday March 6th at 5pm until 7pm. For the last two
years this event has been a huge success with several hundred in attend-
ance the open house evening and several in attendance throughout the
month. We opened the showcase up to all Muhlenberg Elementary and Mid-
dle Schools. The purpose behind this event is to emphasize the value of art
and art education for all children and to encourage public support for quali-
ty school art programs. If you cannot attend the open house the artwork
will be on display for the entire month of March, feel free to stop by during
Thistle Cottage’s normal hours (11am-4pm) and check out the amazing
work of these Muhlenberg County students.

MCTI Presents: Showdown on Rio Road
MCTI Presents Showdown on Rio Road on March 24th
and 25th at 7pm and March 25th and 26th at 2pm. The
show will be held at MCTI’s Palace Theatre. Tickets are
$5 for students and $10 for adults.
The show is a funny, heartwarming story of two broth-
ers who, through a time of hilarious crisis, learn who
they can really count on. Wesley Wyatt, a goofy com-
puter nerd, his younger brother Boysy, have built
(along with their father) what arguably is the world's
most technologically advanced fort. Along with the fa-
ther's very real "humanoid robot," the two boys form a
neighborhood club. Their club and Wesley's leadership
is quickly threatened when the stylish "King" Victor, a
spirited wanna-be bully, moves into town from the big
city and wants possession of the fort. This whimsical,
fast-paced play can be understood and enjoyed by any-
one who has ever had to overcome an obstacle—or a
schoolyard bully.
We will be having March’s Open Mic night on March 3rd at 7pm. The event takes place at
MCTI’s Cabaret Room. Come out and join us and share your talents. We have had comedi-
ans, singers, poetry readings, and instrumentalists all perform and would love to have you
too! If you don’t want to perform but would like to attend the event, we always love having
great audience members for our performers. Donations taken at the door will be split be-
tween Muhlenberg Arts Council and Muhlenberg Community Theatre. We will also have
concessions available at the event. We hope you can join us!
Open Mic Night Continues!
MCHS Drama Presents Little Mermaid
Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney's
The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy
Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug
Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including "Under the Sea," "Kiss
the Girl" and "Part of Your World."
Ariel, King Triton's youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above, bar-
gaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and
Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull, and Sebastian the crab
to restore order under the sea.
Friday, March 10 & Saturday, March 11 - 7:00 pm
Saturday, March 11 & Sunday, March 12 - 2:00 pm
Tickets are $15 for Adults, and $10 for students (ages 3-18)

This year’s Western Kentucky Percussion Festival will be held at Felix Martin Jr. Hall on March 25th, 2017.
Tickets are $5 for the entire day of the festival. The concept for the West Kentucky Percussion Festival orig-
inated in November of 2014. The festival was generated by the need of area high school percussion en-
sembles to have a place to perform outside their local high school band concert. Rick Gardner (Director of
Percussion at Muhlenberg County High School) had the original idea and after discussing with other band
staff and Felix Martin Jr. Hall, made the official announcement to members of the KMEA 3rd district. The
festival concept was well received and applications by performing ensembles were submitted very quick-
ly. The registration had to be closed in a few short days. With the overwhelming response by local schools
it was decided to make the festival into a day long percussion festival similar to other “Days of Percus-
sion.” Six clinicians, plus university solo performers were contacted and the West Kentucky Percussion Fes-
tival was officially formed. The first festival was held on March 14, 2015 and all involved considered it a
great success. The festival is hosted by the Muhlenberg County Band Boosters and the Muhlenberg County
Percussion Students.
The 2017 festival will feature clinics and performances by: David Steinquest, Dr. Mark Berry, Dr. Chad
Floyd, James Harrison, Zack Stewart, Tracy Leslie, Shane Melvin, Darci Davis, Katelynn Ward and the WKU
Steel Band.
