Myers-Brigg Personality Test
Put all books on shelves below desk Put all backpacks at the back
Minds-On: Quiz Name:
•What are your personality traits? Extravert/Introvert? Sensing/Intuitive? Thinking/Feeling? Judging/Perceiving?
• In one phrase, what do each of the above traits mean?
•When in a school environment might you find being aware of your traits useful?
Understanding Preference -- Writing Name
• Begin the interpretation by helping students understand the concept of preference. According to Carl Jung’s theory, preference is inborn. It is our preferred way to interact with the world. Use this brief exercise to demonstrate how preference works:
• Ask students to sign their name on a sheet of paper. Ask how it felt. Most say it is easy and comfortable. Next challenge students to sign their name with their non-dominant hand. Ask how this felt. Most can do it, but it is awkward and a little challenging. It requires a little extra thought to do it.
• Ask students, “With which hand do you reach for the pen?” This is an example of inborn preference. If students are aware of their preferences and choose their careers with these preferences in mind, they are more likely to be good at their jobs and enjoy them more. If students choose careers that do not match their preferences, they can do the job, but are more likely to experience stress at work.

Here are examples of what sensing students wrote:
The first thing I notice in this picture is a beautiful red and black butterfly. With another glance I see a large, menacing bug with wings. Snails and spiders also blend into the background filled with lovely green leaves and flowers. It is a garden bursting at the seams with lush vegetation and giant insects.

Share with the class what you wrote.
Here are examples of what intuitive students wrote:
It is a dragonfly going through the virgin forest. The butterfly is coming to relax upon the evergreen lily leaf. The virgin forest is really the world of the insects—a world that is encompassed by man. Yet this world is around our porch, in the grass and in the hills, but we do not see it. It is the world of the insects. It is their virgin forest.
