Natalie Hershlag (known by her stage name Natalie Portman) was born on June 9, 1981 in Jerusalem, Israel, she is the only child of a doctor father and an artist mother, who also acts as her agent.

She was born diligent and does concern about getting a good education. "I loved school so much that most of my classmates considered me a dork," she said. "

"I'm going to college. I don't care if it ruins my

career. I'd rather be smart than a movie

star."

She left Israel for Washington, when she was still very young. After a few more moves, her

family finally settled in New York, where she still lives to this day.

Natalie graduated from Long Island High School 1999 with honors, which then allowed her to study at Harvard and graduated in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in psychology.

In 1994, Natalie played her first acting role in the film “Leon: The Professional.” She played Mathilda, a young girl in New York whose family is slaughtered by cops. Film received favorable reviews from critics.

Natalie first truly gained attention of fans when she began playing one of the lead roles in “Star Wars: Episode I-The Phantom Menace.” She played Queen Amidala/Padme. Natalie continued to play the important character in Episode II and Episode III (“Attack of the Clones” and “Revenge of the Sith”).

In 2005, Natalie took on the role of Evey Hammond in the film “V for Vendetta”, a young woman who is saved from the secret police by the main character. For the role Natalie had to shave her head, proving that she could still look beautiful with no hair.

In 2010, Portman played a young ballerina in film "Black Swan". The movie is a psychological thriller. For role Nina Sayers in the bizarre film, Natalie won the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in 2011. Natalie also won the Golden Globe for her roles in “Black Swan” and “Closer.”
