Alexandria - Teleorman

Alexandria is the capital city ofthe Teleorman County, Romania.It is located south-west ofBucharest, towards the Bulgarianborder. The city is situated on theVedea River and has over45,000 inhabitantsArea: 9.56 km²

HISTORY

Our high school has a history and tradition which can be tracedback to the year 1873, when it functioned as an institutiondesigned to form primary school teachers.

In the long run it changed to Industrial High School, from 1972to 1990.

In 1990 it takes back its previous function to form primaryschool teachers.

In 2000 it changes its name into Pedagogical High School. In the period 2004-2017 it had been called “Mircea Scarlat”

Pedagogical High School. Starting with the school year 2017-2018 has been called the

National Pedagogical College ,,Mircea Scarlat’’

Tuition Plan

Vocational education:- the pedagogical pathway, where primary and kindergartenteachers are formed.

Theoretical education:- the humanities: philology, bilingual English and Frenchintensive classes- the realistic pathway: mathematics and ICT classes.

Teaching staff

Teachers: 60, all of whom have therequired qualification level

Auxiliary didactic staff: 10 Auxiliary staff: 15

Pupils

832, with ages between 14 and 18; Compulsory education: 382; Upper-secondary high school: 450; Many of our pupils come from the rural areas

of the county and commute to school everyday;

The majority of our pupils choose to go touniversity after graduation.

MATERIAL BASIS OF THE SCHOOL

Our high school consists of two buildings, A and B,a gym, two libraries, a student’s hostel, a canteen and aterrace.

In terms of studying laboratories and cabinets, wehave history, biology, chemistry, geography, foreignlanguages, Romanian language, counseling laboratories,computer science laboratories, with computers andinternet access.

ACTIVITIES AND PROJECTS

Apart from the compulsory subject matters thatpupils have to attend, our high school offers a widevariety of extracurricular activities and projects meantto develop both social skills, such as volunteering forthe benefit of the community, as well as personal skills:communication, team work, responsibility, mutual help,leadership and much more.

NATIONAL ANDINTERNATIONAL PROJECTS

Euroscola Contest, organised by the Representation of the European Parliament in Bucharest, where our high school won 2nd place.

European Leader Contest, organised by the Representation of the European Parliament in Bucharest, which we won.

Europe’s Parade is a competition meant to teach pupils the real values of democracy, diversity,tolerance, appreciation and respect for other cultures. It is organised by the County Council ofTeleorman each year, on the 9th of May and all the high schools in the county participate. Besides thevaluable input of information that pupils acquire during the project, they also have the chance to winthe most wanted prize of the year: a trip to the country they represent during the parade. And we areproud to say that we have won this competition every year, since its debut in 2005.

ECO PROJECTS The Eco School International Project, coordinated by FEE, which has as

main aim the shift of mentality in the protection of the natural environment and the shaping of an ecological attitude among pupils

LEAF, coordinated by FEE, with the focus on forest study and protection

YOUNG REPORTERS FOR THE ENVİRONMENT (YRE) - international projectaimed at sustainable education of young people by making environmental reports andpublishing them online, valuing IT skills.

SCHOOLS FOR A GREEN FUTURE – a national educational program, aimed atkeeping the cultural quality of the environment through eco activities and nature, out ofthe need to ensure a clean environment by publishing its own publications or othermedia materials necessary to achieve the purpose.
