College Twilight Festival Last Friday 18 October the College in conjunction with the PampF conducted the Twilight Festival at the Wodonga campus To say that we have been blessed with glorious weather over the last several years for these twilight events is an under-statement and the setting last week was again fantastic I would estimate that over 600 people attended the event at various stages throughout the evening and it was tremendous to see so many of our students enjoying themselves along with their friends and parents
I take this opportunity to sincerely thank those parents and staff who generously supported the Festival Once again their contributions led to a wonderful community event for the College I especially wish to put on record my thanks to Mr Greg Davis the Collegersquos Business Manager whose efforts last week in relation to the event were above the call of duty ndash thanks Greg
The Twilight Festival made a profit of approximately $3500 which will go towards purchasing various resources for our students A good result ndash thanks to all involved At the Twilight Festival we conducted the draw for the PampFrsquos major raffle There were some great prizes on offer and I thank all of our students who did such a great job in selling all of those raffle tickets over the last few months I am pleased to report that

winners of the three prizes were all people attached to or part of the Trinity community Our lucky winners were
1st Prize ndash new Ford Fiesta valued at over $20000 ndash Mrs Marite Freire (Grandmother of current students)
2nd Prize - $4000 travel voucher ndash Ms Leisha Kilpatrick (current Year 12 student) and
3rd Prize - $500 fuel voucher ndash Ms Stephanie Watson (past student who finished Year 12 in 2010)

I am also pleased to announce that the student who sold the most raffle tickets was Ben Sampson (Year 3 Albury) Ben was presented with an i-Pad mini at this weekrsquos Junior School assembly at the Albury campus ndash well done Ben and thanks for all of your great efforts with the raffle
In terms of the raffle the College raised just over $13000 ndash a great result Once again thank you to all students and families who enthusiastically supported the raffle
NAPLAN Results Parents of students in Years 3 5 7 amp 9 were sent a series of documents outlining their son andor daughterrsquos NAPLAN results recently Of course the College has been provided with copies of the results of these literacy and numeracy tests and has begun the process of analysing these An initial overview of the results across all year levels indicates that from my point of view students at Trinity continue to perform strongly in almost areas and the growth of most students since last completing the NAPLAN tests two years ago has been strong
The NAPLAN data available to the College enables key staff at Trinity to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses in our teaching and learning and therefore the opportunity to address and nurture these It is important that we take time to examine student results from this point of view
I take this opportunity to congratulate our students on their individual performances in this yearrsquos NAPLAN tests In particular I say lsquoWell donersquo to our Year 3 students ndash I have always argued that it is a big ask for them to complete tests like these If any parents have any questions about their son andor daughterrsquos results please do not hesitate to contact their Classroom Teacher in the Junior School or the Director of Studies Ms Kym Armstrong the Head of English Mrs Willis or Head of Mathematics Mr Andrew Leary for students in the Senior School

Teach us to realise the brevity of Life (Psalm 9012)
Some people know that life is short and they make their time count Gladys Aylward for example lsquoGladys whorsquo People thought the same about a hundred years ago Gladys was an ordinary working girl in London doing nothing particularly glamorous apart from saving her wages Eventually she saved enough to boat over to China where she founded her own inn She took in orphans and risked her life to intervene in prison riots In 1938 Japanese forces invaded and Gladys led 94 orphans across the mountains to safety despite being wounded herself In the last twenty years of her life she founded an orphanage in Taiwan dedicating her last days to helping the poor and needy Her life story was so
inspirational that Hollywood made a film about her The Inn of the Sixth Happiness
Talk about making your life count Gladys understood what the psalmist meant when he spoke about life being brief But it wasnrsquot any big grand flashy life she embraced It was

quiet unnoticed dedication and intentional care for others We need to realise that making our lives count doesnrsquot necessarily mean making ourselves a big deal In fact if we make our lives count Jesusrsquo way it means the exact opposite

The year is swiftly progressing and it is now time for students in Years 7 to 10 to prepare to showcase their wares in the final examinations All students should have received examination timetables that detail specific times and locations for each exam these have been distributed in Pastoral Care Groups These timetables are also available via the College website The table below outlines in broad terms when each exam will occur

From the Acting Head of Senior School
This week the Year 11 students are focused on their involvement in the 2013 Border Relay For Life The students set themselves a goal to raise $10000 and they are well on their way to achieving this with over $7500 raised to date I must commend them on their unending efforts for this cause We are all far too aware of the impacts that cancer has on our families and our society and I have been humbled to watch our Year 11s be so motivated and dedicated to help this amazing cause If anyone in our Trinity community would still like to make a donation to our team it would be gratefully received Individual family or business donations are welcome and can be left at the office We appreciate all of the support we have received so far and we look forward to finishing off with our final big fund raising push as we head to the actual Relay this weekend On a different note many of you may well have gone along to see the performers and entertainers at last weekrsquos Applause festival in central Albury A number of our students performed sharing their singing dancing and circus acts with the public As part of the celebrations on that day the annual River of Stories prizes are presented at the Library Museum In the past Trinity students have earned success in this competition but this year our results were outstanding In the Year 910 category Emma Outtrim (Year 10) was awarded a $50 voucher for her original short story while in the Year 78 section Kate Moyle (Year 7) received not only the $50 prize but the $200 reward for the overall winner in her category As a result Trinity also received a $500 prize to go towards resources in the library We are looking for Katersquos suggestions I must add the comments I received from the judges on Katersquos poem I was told the judges thought it was lsquoamazingly funnyrsquo and they had no choice but to award it 25 marks out of 25 An amazing achievement ndash well done to both girls

Teach us to realise the brevity of Life (Psalm 9012)
Some people know that life is short and they make their time count Gladys Aylward for example lsquoGladys whorsquo People thought the same about a hundred years ago Gladys was an ordinary working girl in London doing nothing particularly glamorous apart from saving her wages Eventually she saved enough to boat over to China where she founded her own inn She took in orphans and risked her life to intervene in prison riots In 1938 Japanese forces invaded and Gladys led 94 orphans across the mountains to safety despite being wounded herself In the last twenty years of her life she founded an orphanage in Taiwan dedicating her last days to helping the poor and needy Her life story was so
inspirational that Hollywood made a film about her The Inn of the Sixth Happiness
Talk about making your life count Gladys understood what the psalmist meant when he spoke about life being brief But it wasnrsquot any big grand flashy life she embraced It was

The year is swiftly progressing and it is now time for students in Years 7 to 10 to prepare to showcase their wares in the final examinations All students should have received examination timetables that detail specific times and locations for each exam these have been distributed in Pastoral Care Groups These timetables are also available via the College website The table below outlines in broad terms when each exam will occur

From the Acting Head of Senior School
This week the Year 11 students are focused on their involvement in the 2013 Border Relay For Life The students set themselves a goal to raise $10000 and they are well on their way to achieving this with over $7500 raised to date I must commend them on their unending efforts for this cause We are all far too aware of the impacts that cancer has on our families and our society and I have been humbled to watch our Year 11s be so motivated and dedicated to help this amazing cause If anyone in our Trinity community would still like to make a donation to our team it would be gratefully received Individual family or business donations are welcome and can be left at the office We appreciate all of the support we have received so far and we look forward to finishing off with our final big fund raising push as we head to the actual Relay this weekend On a different note many of you may well have gone along to see the performers and entertainers at last weekrsquos Applause festival in central Albury A number of our students performed sharing their singing dancing and circus acts with the public As part of the celebrations on that day the annual River of Stories prizes are presented at the Library Museum In the past Trinity students have earned success in this competition but this year our results were outstanding In the Year 910 category Emma Outtrim (Year 10) was awarded a $50 voucher for her original short story while in the Year 78 section Kate Moyle (Year 7) received not only the $50 prize but the $200 reward for the overall winner in her category As a result Trinity also received a $500 prize to go towards resources in the library We are looking for Katersquos suggestions I must add the comments I received from the judges on Katersquos poem I was told the judges thought it was lsquoamazingly funnyrsquo and they had no choice but to award it 25 marks out of 25 An amazing achievement ndash well done to both girls

From the Acting Head of Senior School
This week the Year 11 students are focused on their involvement in the 2013 Border Relay For Life The students set themselves a goal to raise $10000 and they are well on their way to achieving this with over $7500 raised to date I must commend them on their unending efforts for this cause We are all far too aware of the impacts that cancer has on our families and our society and I have been humbled to watch our Year 11s be so motivated and dedicated to help this amazing cause If anyone in our Trinity community would still like to make a donation to our team it would be gratefully received Individual family or business donations are welcome and can be left at the office We appreciate all of the support we have received so far and we look forward to finishing off with our final big fund raising push as we head to the actual Relay this weekend On a different note many of you may well have gone along to see the performers and entertainers at last weekrsquos Applause festival in central Albury A number of our students performed sharing their singing dancing and circus acts with the public As part of the celebrations on that day the annual River of Stories prizes are presented at the Library Museum In the past Trinity students have earned success in this competition but this year our results were outstanding In the Year 910 category Emma Outtrim (Year 10) was awarded a $50 voucher for her original short story while in the Year 78 section Kate Moyle (Year 7) received not only the $50 prize but the $200 reward for the overall winner in her category As a result Trinity also received a $500 prize to go towards resources in the library We are looking for Katersquos suggestions I must add the comments I received from the judges on Katersquos poem I was told the judges thought it was lsquoamazingly funnyrsquo and they had no choice but to award it 25 marks out of 25 An amazing achievement ndash well done to both girls

Soireacutee Franccedilaise The French evening designed to allow Year 8 and 9 students to show off their skills in French by presenting a series of films skits plays songs and tongue-twisters in French has been rescheduled to take place on Thursday 28 November 600pm to 700pm Please put it in the diaries and come to support the students They have worked hard ndash and it is part of their assessment
