TheNoviFlowDifferenceWhatmakesourproductssospecial?

NoviWare

NoviWare is at theheartofwhatmakesNoviFlow’sNoviSwitches unique inthe SDN/OpenFlow world: combining a fully programmable forwardingpipeline AND wire-speed OpenFlow performance. What do we mean inpracticaltermsbya“fullyprogrammableforwardingpipeline”?A fullyprogrammable pipeline allows any combination of match fields,instructionsandactions inanycombinationofoneormultipletables.ASICstypically have very limited and inflexible pipelines, and even the mostconfigurable ASIC pipelines can beoptimized for only one specific pipelinearchitectureatatime.

NoviFlow’s NoviWare runs on Network processors (NPUs), enabling our products to accommodate whatever SDNfunctionsapplicationsneed, intheorder inwhich theyneed them,andwehave the total capacity(millionsof flowentries, andup to120tables) to easily accommodate multiple applications. The L2-L7 matching and packet payload processing feature enables SDNapplicationstosetflowrulesbasedonUDPandIPpacketpayloads,andthentoalterthecontentofthosepacketsaccordingly.OneofNoviFlow’spartnershasused this feature to build a truly innovative GTP load balancing solutions formobileoperators.

Similarly, the VxLAN Encapsulation/decapsulation feature provides means toassociate actions to flow entries that can push and pop VxLAN headers. For

example,ourVxLAN-basedmultitenancy/disasterrecoverydemowhenweusethiscapabilitytotransparentlyswaponeWebserverforanotheronabackupnetworksuingthesameaddressspaceonboththemainandbackupnetworks.Howdoesthiswork?

Thisapplicationremapsvirtualnetworks,switchingtunnelconnectionsbetweenVMsbychangingVNIonthefly.NoviWarehasthecapability tomatchand set tunnel idwhichcorresponds totheVNI forVxLAN.Moreover,NoviWare canmatchand setupto16bytesofUDPpayload,whichallowstheapplicationtoupdatetheVxLANheaderbasedontheencapsulatedframedataormodifytheframe(inner)fields.ItcanalsobeusedtoblockanyportbasedontheinnerUDPheaderofthetunneleddata.Neat,eh?
