Dear Parents and Caregivers
The end of the school year is fast approaching, with the College holding many functions to celebrate the efforts the
students have put in over the last 12 months.
The formal College exams concluded in week 7, and whilst that is in one sense a culmination of a semester’s content,
officially representing 30% of a student’s final grade, it does not mean an end to teaching and learning. In order to
have exams marked, recorded, reports written and sent to parents, we need to keep to this timeline. What happens
during the last three weeks, is often a direct result of overall exam performance. Teachers analyse student’s
strengths and weaknesses and often re-teach these areas of concern.
Within these last few busy weeks, we have the Year 10 Dinner Dance at the Lake Joondalup Resort (this Thursday
evening), our musical performance showcase, the “Night on the Green” - a wonderful community engagement. We
do hope parents can attend and support this event. We also have the “Colours and Honours Awards Evening” to
reward student excellence, the “Year 10 Presentation Evening”, and the final assembly with the much anticipated
“Grand Prize Draw” that rewards positive behaviour throughout the year.
I would also like to congratulate, the wonderful efforts of our five students who competed in the world finals of the
“World Scholars Cup” at the prestigious Yale University in the USA recently. As I have mentioned previously, this is
real life and tangible evidence that our students are as good as any in the world. Congratulations to Farzana,
Matilda, Izzah, Ella and Vienna. I must also mention their parents, for supporting the students and funding their
way to both Melbourne and the USA. Without this personal and financial support, these students would not have
had this experience in the World Scholars Cup.
Warm regards
Rod Buckenara
Principal

‘THE NUTCRACKER’ PRESENTED BY THE WA BALLET
On Tuesday 27 November 32 students from years 7, 8, 9 and 10 took the
opportunity to watch the WA Ballets performance of ‘The Nutcracker’.
Performed at His Majesty’s Theatre, the students enjoyed the chance to visit
the city and the oldest theatre in Perth. The Nutcracker has a Christmas theme
and students were wowed by the wonderful costumes, the sheer talent of the
dancers and what is possible in a professional production. Everyone was left
with something they really enjoyed from the show and are looking forward to
seeing another performance in 2019. Thank you Mrs Stenner

WORLD SCHOLARS CUP TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS
On November 16-21 five students from Kinross college competed against students from all around the world at Yale University. They competed in many tasks such as team debating, scholar's bowl, collaborative writing and the scholar's challenge. It was -5 degrees and snowing which added to the excitement of competing in a world-wide academic competition in USA. The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and learnt a great deal.
2018 POLICE RANGERS GRADUATION
The Police Ranger program at Kinross College, in conjunction with Cadets WA and the WA Police Force have had a sensational year.
