Please remember that even if you feel that your pet is friendly and non-aggressive, you are not permitted to allow them to be off-leash or unrestrained in common areas within the neighborhood. For your pet's safety and for other peoples' safety, please keep that in mind. Our sheriff posted this message on Nextdoor…please read the following.
Re-post from Sheriff Adrian Garcia:Dear Resident: The Harris County Sheriff 's Office responds to over 4,500
aggressive animal calls each year. The HCSO is investigating a dog shooting that took place in Bay Area Park on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015. The man who shot the dog told deputies he felt threatened by the large dog and shot the animal.
We are conducting a thorough investigation into this incident. Once our investigation comes to a close, the findings will be presented to the Harris County District Attorney's Office for a decision on whether or not to accept charges.
Harris County animal regulations state that “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat, nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.”
Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat" under the following circumstances:
1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being, who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question
2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does
not have access to sidewalk or street. All of us play an active and important role in keeping our
community safe by being responsible pet owners.
