Northwest Territories

Size and Location The Northwest Territories include the northern most areas of Canada. This territory is as big as 1, 141,000 Km. The territory is between Nunavut and Yukon. These are territories, too. The Northwest Territories is near Beaufort Sea.

Land

Three geographic nations cover most of the Northwest Territories: The Arctic Archipelago, the eastern Arctic Mainland, and the western Mackenzie Valley area. The first two regions are beyond the tree line and will roughly form Nunavut The Arctic Archipelago includes all the territories’ islands.

Capital and Major Cities

The Northwest Territories only has a few major cities. They are: Fort Simson. Fort Smith, Hay River, Inuvik and Yellowknife. Yellowknife is also the capital of the Northwest Territories. Yellowknife is a really important part of the Northwest Territories because most of the people in this territory live in the capital city.

Weather and Climate

It is very cold in the Northwest Territories. The winter lasts very long and the summer lasts very short, there. Even in summer, there, it’s still cold. It just becomes a little hot.

Not a lot of people live in the Northwest Territories. The population of this territory is only 43,247. So only 1.0% of people live in the Northwest Territories. The population density is 0.0,there.

The types of animals found in the Northwest Territories: Arctic foxes, Arctic hares, bald eagles, beaver, beluga whales, bisons, Canada geese, Canada lynxs, caribou, fisher, flying squirrels, grizzly bears, moose, pacific loons, peregrine falcons, polar bears, porcupines, raccoons, rainbow trouts, red foxes, snowy owl, striped skunks, tundra swan, wolves and wolverines.

The Northwest Territories is an area of natural beauty. This makes it an ideal location for outdoor adventures! There are mostly winter sports and activities there. The popular sports are: snowshoeing, dog-sledding, skating, golfing, ice-climbing, hunting and cycling.

There aren’t that many attractions in the Northwest Territories, but there are some and they are very beautiful. These attractions are: Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, the Nahanni National Park, the Wood Buffalo National Park, Victoria Island and Cambridge Bay.

The Northwest Territories is the perfect destination for tours. Especially in the summer time, when the weather is hot. Many tourists come to bird-watch, while some tourists watch polar bears. People also come to hike or to hunt. Others come for outdoor adventures like canoeing, white water rafting, horse trekking and ice-fishing.
