Introduction

The first modern olympic game revived in Athens 1896.

After leading all voting rounds, Athens easily defeated Rome in the 5th and final vote.Athens was choosen as the host city during the 106th IOC Session hold in Lausanne on 5 September in 1997Greece was the smallest country ever to host the largest event of the world.

BUDGET

Athens has a budget of 1,962 billion Euros.

88% of the Athens’ budget comes from broadcast rights,sponsoring,licencing programmes and ticket sales.

Only 12% comes from the greek state.

More than €300 million from grand national sponsors.

Approximately €270 million from international sponsors.

Construction-The Olympic Stadium was completed with a retractable glass roof designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava.

-The rail projects were upgrated and metro could move approximately 1 million passengers a day by the summer of 2004.

-The new Airport of Eleftherios Venizelos opened in March 2001.  Voted as one of the three best airports in the world - according to

the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

-The enviromental projects such as,managing waste water, renovation of buildings, tree planting and the upgrading of public areas.

-More than 8new buildings were constructed for Olympic games.

-Greece built a village for attendees.It included 2,292 apartments

Completed in late july of 2004.

ACCOMMODATION

Greece built a town to house the 17,000 athletes and sports officials, while a 200,000 square meter Press Village situated at Maroussi, closer to the Olympic Stadium. Spectators used rooms in hotels and private homes.

During the game time,30.000 room were available.

SECURITY

Despite wide approval for Athens as Olympic host, countries including the United States have voiced concerns about security.

Greek government hired Peter Ryan who was the security chief at the Sydney Olympics.

They spent huge amount of money for security infrastructures.

?August 2003,Greek Embassy reported that the Olympic Games of 2004 will increase the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 1.3% at the year 2004.

what happened after the athletes went home?

Greece spent €1.5 billion to stage the 2004 Summer Olympics, some of those once-gleaming venues are crumbling.
