Administrative Matters and Things to Do

11

Laptop & Software Required for CPA Lessons

• IMPORTANT: You will need to bring a personal Laptop PC for nearly all CPA lessons

• Your Laptop/Tablet PC should ideally have: • Microsoft Windows • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

– Win 7 and Office 2010 are the versions used in schools – Later versions of Windows and Office can be used

• Wi-Fi wireless connectivity • External mouse (for occasional graphics work)

– Various open-source software will be installed as instructed

– We recommend a minimum of 13” screen size

– Apple MacBooks should run Windows. Using OS X and Office

for Mac are possible for nearly all course tasks but not ideal. You will have to “translate” the differences between Mac and PC interfaces/commands, and teaching in schools will overwhelmingly require the PC.

12

Administration

• QCQ52A and QCQ52B begin the week of 5 Feb 2018*

– *Course information, detailed schedule, assignment details will be put up on GeNIEus before the first lesson.

– Always check GeNIEus (“Blackboard”) before lessons

– Download (& only if instructed to, print) any handouts before coming to class. However, for most lessons, this won’t be required.

– Urgent instructions/announcements will be made via email, therefore, please ensure your contact details are updated on NIE Portal.
