PASTOR’S COLUMN
Dear Community of Our Lady of Perpetual Help,
As we live our spiritual life, the relationship with God, with the Father, with Jesus, with the Holy Spirit, we will have great moments of consolation. We will experience many mo-ments of joy that could never be fully explained with words. Along with these luminous moments, we will also have moments where we see the face of evil, of death which will lead us to suffer much. But, we must remain close to the Lord!
“It is necessary for us to undergo many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God …” Acts
By remaining close to God in painful moments, His grace comes to us and we raise our heart in prayer to Him.
“I will praise your Name forever … my King and my God …” Psalm 145
The greatest prayer in the eyes of God is to praise Him, thank Him in all we live!
Eternal Father, protect us! Precious Jesus, save us! Holy Spirit, teach us to pray! We thank you, we praise you, we glorify you!
Monsignor Lorenzo

What risks are worth it for children?
In today’s society, parents are o en torn between protec ng their children, and le ng them experience life and even make mistakes. Safety is vitally important, but there is value in learning from experience and from mistakes, too. There may be mes when parents won-der if they have gone too far in their efforts to safeguard children, perhaps inadvertently rendering them children less prepared to handle real-life situa-
ons, for help in discerning when learning from experi-ence may be appropriate see the VIRTUS® ar cle “Safety vs. Resilience in Childhood.” For more informa on, visit h p://www.la-archdiocese.org/org/protec ng/Pages/VIRTUS-Current-Online-Ar cles.aspx.

Society makes it acceptable to pursue our own happiness without concern for others. As followers of Christ we know that God holds us responsible for meetings others’ needs. When we care for the poor and needy, God will take care of us.

AN OCEAN NAMED RALPH Human nature confronts newness in a variety of ways. While some bold individuals avoid rou ne and ac vely seek out unusual experiences, a great many of us, fearing the unfamiliar, resist change. Jesus knows perfectly our human nature, and un-derstands the common reluctance to mess with rou-
ne. Nonetheless he proclaims, “Behold, I make all things new.” During the Last Supper, he even goes so far as to pronounce a new commandment: “love one another.” To the observant Jews who are Jesus’ companions, receiving a new commandment might feel as shocking as hearing about a second moon orbi ng the Earth, or a fi h ocean named Ralph. NOT ONE IOTA Mysteriously, the revolu onary newness of Jesus flows out of his profound obedience to fixed tradi-
on, to God’s law. In the fi h chapter of Ma hew, Jesus promises that he will destroy “not one iota,” not the smallest part of the Hebrew law. Instead, Jesus says, he has come to “fulfill” the law. With his perfect obedience to God’s plan, Jesus fulfills the le er of the law. At the same me, he demonstrates the spirit of the law by freely giving his life for us, out of loving concern for our eternal well-being. As St. Paul tells the Romans, “Love is the fulfillment of the law.” God has given us rules to protect us and help us order our lives properly, but Jesus shows us that love makes the law all but unnecessary. A mother who loves her children has no need to re-mind herself of the commandment “Thou shall not kill.” Because of her loving ins nct to nurture her children, she not only follows the Fi h Command-ment, but transcends it, fulfilling it by wan ng to go further than it demands. She not only avoids mur-der, she protects and sustains life. Jesus’ revolu on of love challenges us to meet each moment, each person, as a new opportunity to sacrifice ourselves in love, doing more than the law requires. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc
Ella no solo evita matar, ella protege y man ene la vida.
¡Espíritu Santo, ensénanos a orar!
