Week 7 Term 3 3/9/2019
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you everyone for making an effort to celebrate
Book Week– Reading is my Super Power. There were so
many students dressed up and having fun playing at being
super heroes.
NAIDOC WEEK
On Friday we celebrated NAIDOC Week with a deadly
assembly, acknowledging the wonderful efforts of the
students at our school. The hall was beautifully decorated
with class works and it was wonderful to hear students
come up on stage and describe the art works. We thank
Julie Street-Smith for coming along and explaining
NAIDOC Week to us and Tarnni Foster for singing the
national anthem in Dharawal.
These art works and many individual students artworks
will be on display at the Ability Artist Exhibition this
Sunday, at Spring into Corrimal. (See attached flyer).
KIDSWISH CHRISTMAS PARTY
As a school we find it very difficult to organise and
supervise students to attend the KIDSWISH Christmas
Party. We encourage families to attend, but remind you
that students are not to come to school at the conclusion
of the party as their late arrival is disruptive to them and
their peers.
Here is the link to register as a parent to attend the party.

“Heads Up” from Merryl
“Heads Up” is a quick reminder or hint that families may find useful.
Todays “Heads Up” is on post school options for school leavers with challenging behaviours.
The Reason:
Many families of school leavers are discovering that there is limited- if any- appropriate NDIS services to address their young persons needs after leaving
school.
Many of these young adults will need specific supports to participate fully in a post school option. This may be a centre based option or an individual pro-
gram.
The supports required may include but is not limited to additional training for service providers staff regarding working with young people who may be
aggressive, communication with non-verbal clients and the use of restrictive practices.
What I Have Done:
I have invited all service providers to meet with parents and discuss how their organisation can meet the needs of these young people. I am unsure as yet
how this forum will be run – it will depend on the responses I receive from organisations.
When and Where?
Venue: Para Meadows School
When: Thursday, September 12, 2019
Time: 9.30am or 5.30pm (2 sessions)
RSVP: This invitation is open to all parents of high school students who have concerns about post school options.
You must RSVP to merryl.bennett@det.nsw.edu.au no later than Monday, September 9.
The forum happening will be dependent on attendance.
Participating families will be asked to complete a short questionnaire detailing their young persons needs in a post school program.
Thank you and I hope to see you on the 12th.
