AMSA President’s Welcome

Committee’s WelcomeDear Sir/Madam,

We are standing delicately on the cusp of the future, poised to leap into an era of change, or to tip towards a rocky path of environmental and economic uncertainty. Increasingly, the issues that grace the covers of our newspapers are of global magnitude. Healthcare is truly a universal domain, affecting those of us living in Tasmania as much as in other far-flung corners of the globe.

The current generation of Australian medical students occupies a unique position on the evolving landscape. As our global community grows closer we cannot afford to ignore the forces that will shape the direction of our future. We are keen-eyed, with technological innovations and information at our fingertips. Today, more than ever, we are citizens of the world.

The Global Health Conference (GHC) of the Australian Medical Students’ Association is an important tool for the contemporary medical student. AMSA is the national representative body of Australian medical students, intimately related to the Australian Medical Association. GHC has a strong history of educating medical students since 2005. In 2013, GHC will maximize its potential to inform and empower medical students. We aim not just to inspire students to make an impact, but to facilitate control of our future directions in health care.

Yours sincerely,

Huw Jarvis Georgina Taylor Co-Convenor Co-Convenor

GHC 2013 has been developed with a focus on the future, aiming to inspire and instruct our delegates on how they can contribute to the ever-changing world of global health. Our goal is to empower our students to make change, whether it is in their local community or overseas.

Our theme of World Citizenship reflects the increasing contraction of our global community in the face of technological innovation, environmental challenge and economic concern. We will address environmental, economic, legal and clinical aspects of healthcare around the world, with a special focus on how we can prepare for the future.

Each day will open with a plenary session to inspire and motivate students.

A variety of interactive seminars and workshops will facilitate discourse between students and leaders in global health.

We will again be running the ever-popular Challenge Day – an afternoon of practical skills-based sessions that will allow students to apply the theoretical knowledge they have gained throughout the week, and will provide a friendly competition and rivalry between the universities.

Partners have the opportunity to sponsor a plenary session, workshop or Challenge Day. Partners who sponsor these events will have the opportunity to deliver a 5-minute talk prior to or after the event and/or be given verbal and written acknowledgment during the event (including on the program, on banners or other merchandise).

All Major Partners will also be verbally acknowledged at the beginning of each day.

Partnership Opportunities

The AMSA Global Health Conference is an opportunity for medical students from across Australia to come together to be educated, challenged and inspired in the area of global health.

Becoming a partner gives your company or organisation the opportunity to engage with a group of motivated and dynamic students and future health professionals. GHC 2013 is expecting at least 450 students to be in attendance. Over the past few years GHC has sold out extremely rapidly, with attendance only being limited by venue capacity.

Becoming a partner will provide your organisation or company with the opportunity to develop an ongoing partnership with AMSA and future GHC conferences as well as engage with future health professionals. We aim to promote your organisation throughout the conference, and hope to develop an ongoing relationship between your organisation and the AMSA Global Health Conference for years to come.

The GHC 2013 Partnerships Officers are keen to work with your organisation to tailor your partnership package to best suit your needs. To initiate this process, sponsorship options available are outlined on the following pages with a description of how they fit into the conference.

The first section describes individual sponsorship opportunities and the second section details the benefits of reaching the level of Gold, Silver or Bronze partnerships. This is designed to recognise and reward larger contributions. If a partner’s total contribution exceeds one of the amounts outlined in the ‘Partnership Packages’ section, they receive the items listed under that level of package for no additional charge.

Partnerships with GHC 2013 are very flexible and so rather than having fixed packages of items; we leave the choice up to you.
