THE MIDNIGHT RIDE

• Paul Revere was a patriot in the American Revolution. He is most famous for his ride and warning to the colonists that the British were coming. But Paul Revere never actually said, “The British are coming” he simply said, “The regulars are coming” His ride is how he became famous.

In 1765, Paul Revere joined a

group called the sons of liberty. It

was a group for people who didn’t

want to be ruled by England.

aul Revere was one of the 116 people who

participated in the Boston tea party. That

event was when the British taxed tea so the

Americans took action and dumped over 300

pounds of tea in the river. Paul was very brave

to do that knowing that he could get caught.

aul Revere was born in December 1734 in

Boston, Massachusetts. His father was a

silversmith and Paul Revere wanted to grow up

to be a silversmith too just like his dad was.

e didn't yell "the British are coming!" like some people

say. He was trying to be quiet so he wouldn't get caught.

e wasn't famous during his life. It wasn't until 1861, when

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote the poem "Paul

Revere's Ride", that his ride and life became famous.

e had at least 13 children with two wives.

aul would serve in the American Army during the

revolution. After the war he went back to his silversmith

business expanding to other areas. He died on May 10,

1818.
