BASIC OVERVIEW OF PCN

** PCN should be used in Chrome and only Chrome ** The EDITOR TAB is your start page for everything…

Uploading an Asset – Document or Image Assets are support files to your site. They consist of documents (Word, XLS, PPT, PDF, etc.) and images (PNG, JPG, etc.)

1. From the EDITOR tab, navigate to the assets > uploads > docs > dept you are

adding the file to:

2. Click the Add New icon in the upper right:

For a Document Asset 1. Scroll to and select the File icon and click next:

2. Provide Link Text:

3. Select Choose File, navigate to the file location, select the file and select Open:

4. Select Save:

5. From the Publishing drop-down, select Publish:

6. In the description column, the file will appear as Pending:

7. After a few moments, the file will appear as Live:

For an Image Asset Follow the same steps as Adding a Document Asset with these changes

1. Upload the file in the assets > uploads > images > dept folder for your

department

2. Scroll to and select the Image icon and click next:

Bulk Upload of Assets - Documents

1. In the upper left-hand corner, select DASHBOARD from the drop down.

2. Using the Bulk Upload widget, navigate to the folder you want to upload the

documents to.

3. Verify the address path where it says “Target folder.”

4. Click the “Approve assets” toggle.

5. Verify the “Asset type” is set to File.

6. Click “ADD FILE”

7. Navigate to the files you want to upload and click “Open.”

8. The “Details” will show how many files you have queued for upload.

9. Click “UPLOAD.”

10. Details (see #8) will tell you if the files were uploaded successfully.

11. The files can be seen and linked within PCN immediately, but will not be LIVE for at least 30 minutes when they are PUBLISHED by the server. This happens every 30 minutes at :00 and :30 on the hour (ex: 8:00am and 8:30am).

Editing a Page

1. Navigate to the page to be edited from the EDITOR tab, double click the file and

click the Edit button:

2. In Edit Mode, double-click on the Body Field (or the green pencil box in the

upper right hand corner) to add or change the Body Text (content):

3. Use the ribbon controls to format your body text - Bold, Italic, Centered, etc – and

click SAVE to apply the edit:

4. Click the eyeball icon to preview the page in PCN:

5. Verify your changes are correct, then close the window (NOT THE BROWSER!): *Note* You’ll know you’re in the PCN preview by the web address and the green “orientation bar.”

6. From the Publishing drop-down, select Publish:

7. In the description column, the file will appear as Pending:

8. After a few moments, the file will appear Live:

9. Once Live, check the page on the live www.dallascounty.org site:

Troubleshooting PUBLISH

1. If you check the live www.dallascounty.org site, and you get a “File Not Found/404 Error,” your page isn’t live:

2. Go back to your page and check the status:

a. If it says Quick Edit, you need to Publish the page (step 6):

b. If it says Pending, give it a few minutes then refresh the page in the

browser (CTRL F5):

c. If it says Live, refresh the page in the browser (CTRL F5):

d. If it says Live, and it still doesn’t show up after you refresh the page in the

browser, it is probably cached. Check the page in a different browser or on

another computer.

Adding a Document Link

1. In Edit Mode, insert the link text, highlight it, and click the Insert/Edit Link icon:

2. Click the URL/Folder Icon and navigate to the location (assets/uploads/docs/) of

the new link asset and select it:

You can verify you have the correct link through the file path underneath.

3. Select Okay.

4. Change “Target” to “New Window.”

5. The “Title” should auto-populate with the “Link Title” you assigned to the Asset

when you uploaded it. If not, fill this in with a logical title description.

6. Select Okay.

7. Select Save.

Editing a Document Link Follow the same steps as Adding a Document Link with one extra step (#2)

1. In Edit Mode, highlight the link to be updated.

2. FIRST: Click on the Break Link icon to remove the old link.

3. SECOND: Click on the Insert/Edit Link icon.

4. Navigate to the location of the new link and select it.

5. You can verify you have the correct link through the file path underneath.

6. Select Okay.

7. “Target” should remain as “New Window.” If not, select it again.

8. Note the title of the file has also changed.

9. Select Okay.

10. Select Save.

Adding Rows to a Table

1. Follow Editing a Page instructions to get to the page to be edited.

2. Click inside the bottom row of the existing table then click “Insert Row After” from the Table Dialog Box – an equal number of/columns will be inserted:

3. Add and format content, select Save.

4. Click the eyeball icon to preview the page in PCN:

9. Verify your changes are correct, then close the window (NOT THE BROWSER!): *Note* You’ll know you’re in the PCN preview by the web address and the green “orientation bar.”

10. From the Publishing drop-down, select Publish:

Troubleshooting PUBLISH
