He explained that in his work with the community they have in the past highlighted several trouble sports, which of course they have reported to the relevant police and the operation hit some of these places, resulting in the massive effect that it had. There are also several illegal businesses that operate in the plot areas, and it is there that often the illegal immigrants go to get work as they are not easily able to get work elsewhere, hopefully these businesses will be the next target for the police and we will see a good reduction in the problem not only of crime but of the health risk to the area too, as well as a reduction in the damage to the infrastructure which is not designed to deal with heavy trucks that go to these businesses.

On the 18 September three armed suspects gun-pointed a resident and robbed them of electronics and jewellery before fleeing in a white BMW.A call-in alerted CMS to the fact that a break-in was in progress in Melkweg and that the suspects were armed. Racing to the scene along with the SAPS they found that they had missed the suspects by mere minutes as the criminals had fled in their getaway car. The suspects apparently stole the vehicle to get away in from the victim, adding insult to injury, and fled not only in their car but in possession of electronics, jewellery, cell phones and

alcohol.

According to the victim of the crime he had just arrived at home and was entering his driveway when a white Audi A3 pulled in behind him. Three armed men leapt out and pulled him from his vehicle, a gun pointed at his head. Dragging him to the house they forced him to open the door. Inside they locked the man and the domestic worker in the bathroom while they ransacked the house. The domestic was able to press the panic, alerting CMS of their predicament and who were able to respond. No one was hurt in the incident, for which the victim of the robbery said he was ‘thankful’.

On the 13 September the Band Heuwels Fantasties came to Brandwag Hoerskool and a day of fun with stalls and all cumulated with great music. The day was a great one, and it was clear that the students (and parents) had an awesome time, what with the ’colour run’ which is basically an excuse to raise money throwing powder paint at people, and the dunking stool, which is basically an excuse to drop people in very cold water, and the awesome food stalls, which are basically an excuse… (you get the idea)…and by evening everyone was ready for

the bands. It was a warm evening and it was perfect for all the youngsters that evidently had no lack of energy to dance and scream for their music idols. CMS kept a close eye on the proceedings to ensure that nothing got out of hand, but as far as we could see all anyone was interested in was having a good time. Finally after lots of jumping and singing along the fans got a chance to meet the band members and get t-shirts and cds signed. Thanks to the bands for the entertainment, the stalls for their awesome goodies, and CMS and Emer-G-Med for making it safe!

The reports that have come in of the number of dog poisonings in the areas is a clear indication of the crime that is to come, and the trend is a warning to people to not only report every dog poisoning that happens but also to be extra vigilant in their daily routine.Properties in the Bass area and in Bredell as well as in Western Extension have had dogs poisoned and the tally is reported to be as high as over thirty dogs that have been poisoned. Of those affected there is a report that at least ten of the dogs have since died as a result of the attempts. The favorite method is to use two-step, a grayish granular poison that is easily put on a piece of meat which is then thrown over the wall of the property for

the dogs to find. Various vets have noted the number of dogs that have been brought in and speaking with the patrolmen they have confirmed that they have had to take the Dog Poisoning Trailer out to properties where they patrol. The typical course of action that the criminals follow is to poison the dogs and then return at a later time in the week and try to break in, when they know the dogs are now no longer a problem. It is also noted that this time of year is a time when there is an increase in break-ins so the trend is not unexpected. If you suspect your dog has been poisoned then the animal must be taken to the vet immediately, but it is also a good idea to inform your security company as well so that the pattern and areas that are likely to see activity can be monitored.

There have been several complaints, and indeed even an official letter from the DA, about the lack of water supply on the East Rand. There has been almost no mention of the lack by the municipality, except for a half-hearted apology from the municipality, blaming the residents for using too much, but as one person commented quite vociferously, “we haven’t had any water to use too much of!” The lack of water is allegedly due to a lack of power at one of the major supply reservoirs, but it highlights the lack of planning and backup

on the part of the municipality and implies that there may be future problems in this regard. Supply of water is a basic necessity and indeed a right of the community and it seems to indicate a complete lack of accountability on the part of the municipality with regard to service delivery. The problem is apparently widespread and not just in the Benoni area, but all over the East rand and Johannesburg. If this is the kind of service delivery that we can expect, we cannot help but ask what else we will soon have to do without, despite the fact that we pay for all these things?

On 2014-09-04 at about 01:45, Constable David Makung and Constable Patrick Maphisa were working nightshift. During the early morning hours they were notified by a security company of suspicious people. Upon arrival at an electrical company in Trichardt Street, Boksburg North, they saw two suspects

walking on the roof.

They chased then and apprehended two African males, and arrested them. They were brought to Boksburg North SAPS and a case was opened for Business breaking. Stolen items unknown at this stage.
