What is PFF? Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) is a one-year interdisciplinary for-credit seminar class offered in the fall and spring semesters that allows graduate students and postdocs to explore the many roles of a faculty member. Throughout the year faculty and administrators provide an inside look into the world of higher education (e.g. research, grant writing, how to be successful in the profession, etc.). In the program, students explore the various faculty roles in research/scholarship, teaching, and service and how these can vary depending on the type of institution. Assessment data has shown that those students who complete PFF are better prepared for, and are more successful in, their first faculty position. This program gives an honest, informative overview of what life is like as a faculty member.

Preparing Future Scholars (PFS) is a one-year interdisciplinary for-credit seminar class offered in the fall and spring semesters for graduate students interested in exploring careers outside of academia. Students get an insider’s perspective from distinguished leaders within higher education, industry, government, and non-profit sectors. Learn and communicate with peers acrossdisciplines. PFS creates a holistic learning community with interdisciplinary and career development skills for diverse employment sectors.

Who can participate in PFF or PFS?Any doctoral or MFA student or postdoc who is interested in pursuing a faculty position, or in learning more about a profession in academia, or exploring non-academic careers.

Who is invited to the Information Sessions? Graduate students pursuing a doctorate or MFA and postdocs who are interested in learning more about the PFF and PFS programs at Arizona State University. Light refreshments will be served.
