WHAT IS PHOTO SHARING?

• Online photo sharing services make organizing, storing, and sharing digital photographs convenient, easy and safe.

PHOTO SHARING WEBSITES

There are two main categories for photo sharingwebsites:

1.Sites that offer free photo sharing 2.Sites that charge consumers directly to host

and share photos

ONLINE PHOTO FINISHING

A number of providers offer the ability tocreate high quality prints from digitalphotos, printed digitally on photographicpaper

Common online photo finishing sites:www.kodakgallery.comwww.fastlab.comwww.photoworks.comwww.snapfish.com among others...

PHOTO SHARING SITESWebsites for photo sharing may have different features but they all have something in common:

1) Upload of pictures with the ability to browse to images on one’s own computer 2) post those images on the Internet.

Most of them also classify the photos in groups or albums to make the job of finding them easy.

The last one is actually considered the largest and the best photo sharing website.

TAGGING PHOTOS

A taxonomy where images can be grouped within a directory-like structure in so-called galleries.

Tags are like keywords or labels that you add to a photo to make it easier to locate later.

FLICKR NOTES

HOT SPOT ANNOTATIONS

It allows you to add notes to parts of the image by dragging a box across na area and typing text into form.

ORGANIZING PHOTOS ONLINE

Use sets to highlight favorite photos, or make na album of a particular activity or location

Organizr© is a powerful tool for managing photos in batches, for instance.

GEOTAGGING PHOTOSThe process of adding geographical identification metadata to various media.

It usually consists of latitude and longitude coordinates and place names.

SHARING PHOTOS

PHOTOCASTING: a way of sharing photos accompanied by music and/or narrations

PHOTOBLOGGING: a form of photo sharing and publishing in the format of a blog. It focuses on the photos rather than text

MOBILE PHOTOBLOGGING: possibility of sharing photos via mobile devices

LEGAL AND SAFETY ISSUESFLICKR

Flickr has introduced content filters to help regulate who can view what photos.

The safety levels provided are:1. Safe: suitable for a public audience2. Moderate: no need to be restricted for some3. Restricted: not suitable for children

To help creators protect their intellectual property rights, the nonprofit Creative Commons offers an alternative to full copyright
