1. Bryophytes—Mosses, liverworts, hornworts.

--Reproduction only in water

--No vascular tissue

--draw water only by osmosisVascular tissue

Microscope break…• At this point, you will use the microscopes

to look at a cross section of a fern leaf, which includes the sorus, which is the spore producing part of a fern leaf.

• You will then look at a fern gametophyte (prothallium).

• Sketch each on low power and we will label when done.

3. Gymnosperms– conifers, cykads, ginkgoes, gnetophytes

--reproduce by seeds—have no protective coat (naked seed).

--sperm from pollen fertilizes egg

Two classes:

Comparison of monocotsand dicots.

Monocots—corn, lilly, grass, orchids, palms, etc.

Dicots—roses, clover, tomatoes,

daisies, etc.
