PowerPoint is organized just like all Microsoft Office 2010 Applications with the
Ribbon contextual menu and the back space area where you work with files. There
are some new features that are particular to PowerPoint.
2
All Microsoft Office 2010 Applications have the Ribbon and the backstage area.
To create a new presentation go to File > New > Blank Presentation then click
create
PowerPoint defaults with a new slide containing two text boxes. One formatted for
large fonts (title) and the other for subtitles. You can change this slide to any
layout you want by right clicking on it in the sidebar and selecting layout. From
layout you can choose the format you want. You can also add slides here or you
can just right click in the sidebar and select add slide.
3
Right clicking in the sidebar also allows you to create sections to help organize
large presentations (or presentations being created by more than one author) into
more manageable chunks.
You can right click or you can choose options from the ribbon.
4
Home tab
Basic editing and more – you can add shapes from this menu and once added, they
can be edited. You can change colors, add effects, edit points to create an entirely
new shape.
5
Insert Tab
The fun begins!
Insert an image. Click the image to select it. Look at the ribbon. Now there is a tab
called Picture Tools. Click Picture Tools. Now there is an additional menu – just
for changing the image.
6
The best way to learn about all image enhancement tools in PowerPoint is to play
with it. You can correct sharpness or blurriness, re-color, add artistic effects that
make it look more like a sketch. Use pictures to fill a shape.
7
Easily add a photo album to PowerPoint. Under the insert tab, click photo album.
In the dialog box click “from file”. Select the pictures you wish to add.
Click Insert
In the next dialog box you can do some preliminary editing of your pictures.
Your images are listed and you can choose to edit one at a time or apply an effect
to the entire group. You can also add a theme from here.
8
PowerPoint 2010 has included preset Smart Art that you can animate and
customize.
Scroll down to see all or click on a grouping to see the presets that fit that category.
9
Choose a preset and the basic preset will appear on your slide (or document)
Now you can add text.
10
Format all elements of your SmartArt
Animation
Click the animation tab on the ribbon
Animations are how you create movement of the pieces on your slide
Click on animation pane to open a window showing each object
Click effect options
You can now change the direction of animation
You can also select animate as one whole object or one part at a time
Animations default to starting “on click” or when you click them. If you are going
to be actively presenting and speaking you will want to leave this alone. If you
wish to record the presentation and save it as a movie or create a self-running
presentation you can change the drop down to after previous.
11
Transitions
Click the Transitions tab – this is where you will choose how your entire slide will
appear and disappear.
PowerPoint 2010 has added a few new bells and whistles
You can choose transitions and click preview to see how they will look.
12
Lets make a movie!
Slide Show
Click the slide show tab and view your presentation. If you are satisfied click
record and run through your show.
Select Start recording from the beginning
Check items you want included
Ready?
Go back to the file tab
Select Save As
Scroll down to Windows Media Video
Click save
This will take a few minutes
You will now have a movie of your PowerPoint Presentation

There are other options for saving and sharing presentations.
You can select Save and Send > Send as PDF, Attachment, and more.
