“A Woman’s Prayer” is a selection from Dorothy Day’s autobiography From Union Square to Rome, which illustrates that ordinary people can achieve contemplative prayer and that material possessions don’t bring satisfaction.

Dorothy Day was an atheist who converted to the Catholicism. She co-founded the Catholic Worker Movement.

The poem “His Cleric’s Eye” is a meditation and prayer about a priest who was too cerebral and not involved in people’s lives.
