‘The Digital World’ is not completely separate - it is just as much a part of ‘the real world’ as what goes on offline.

What’s the difference?

• Biggest network by far – 1.71 billion users• Diverse user base• Personal Profiles – ‘Friends’• Groups – Online communities• Pages – Brand/Organisation etc.

Facebook

• Microblogging – 140 characters max per ‘Tweet’• Frequent posting, publically visible• One way ‘Follow’ relationship• Feed of real-time content• Celebrities/Brands - @innocent• Allow Private Messaging from other users

Twitter

• Largely for personal use• Companies can have profiles• Online CV and recruitment• Two-way connections with other users, pay to message

privately if not connected

LinkedIn

• ‘Circles’ – communities for sharing content• Loyal following• Minor SEO benefits

Google+

• 400 million users• Very popular with 18-34s• Photos and Videos only (with captions, no links)• Hashtags very #prominent• Requires time, but could be effective in reaching

younger audiences

Instagram

• Private sharing of photos and videos• Shared with one or more individuals• Requires time, but could be effective in reaching

younger audiences

Snapchat

• Upload and share video content• Widely used, with or without signing up (+1 billion users)• Can be used to stream live video – sermons, events etc.• Encourage others to subscribe to your ‘Channel’• Videos can be placed (embedded) inside other content

YouTube

• Live video streaming• Easy setup, very low cost• Possible use for weekly notices, other updates

Periscope/Meerkat/Vine/Facebook Live

Posting video? Go native.

• Be on the lookout for ‘quick wins’ to reach people ‘where they’re at’
