 Press  Release

CNHPR  Brings  Together  Reconciliation  Leaders  to  Plan  for  Grassroots  Implementation  in  2015

Juba,  South  Sudan,  December  5th,  2014

South  Sudan’s  National  Committee  for  Healing,  Peace,  and  Reconciliation  (CNHPR)  held  a  two-‐day  meeting  in  Juba  to  reenergize  and  evaluate  programs  going  forward  in  2015.  State  chairmen,  special  interest  representatives  and  all  five  of  the  executive  members,  Archbishop  Daniel  Deng,  Bishop  Paride  Taban,  Bishop  Rudolph  Deng,  Moderator  Peter  Gai,  and  Bishop  Enock  Tombe,  attended  the  meeting.

Representatives  from  every  state  in  the  nation  and  Abyei  came  to  discuss  the  people  to  people  process  and  roll  out  of  activities  in  2015.  The  Deputy  Chair  of  CNHPR  Bishop  Paride  Taban  explained  that  “We  are  trying  to  get  rid  of  tribalism  not  tribes”  when  discussing  the  vision  of  the  future  of  the  nation.

Over  the  next  two  years,  the  Committee  will  continue  to  facilitate  a  nation-‐wide  consultation  process  at  the  grassroots  level  to  ensure  that  South  Sudan’s  future  reconciliation  journey  is  driven  and  shaped  by  its  citizens’  rich  experiences,  knowledge,  and  needs.  This  meeting  is  a  strategic  step  towards  CNHPR’s  planned  consultation  process,  which  will  eventuate  in  the  development  of  a  people-‐driven  National  Reconciliation  Agenda.
