Conclusions

• Dependent loops are prevalent and, as Garcia hypothesized, impede bladder emptying and promote urine retention

• Urine output monitoring by measurement of urine outflow from the bladder is inaccurate if urine output is being sequestered by the bladder due to the back pressure caused by urine-filled dependent loops
