Principal’s Report
It is hard to believe we are already at the end of term
2. This term we have all overcome challenges and
adapted to our new normal routines ensuring our
own safety and the safety of those around us. I
would like to thank our families for working with us
to ensure we all adhere to the social distancing
guidelines and ensuring that unwell students have
stayed home. It is important that we all stay vigilant
and remember to maintain our personal hygiene and
to keep our distance when with other people. As our
NSW Health restrictions are being lifted and
changed on a regular basis it is vital that we all take
the time to ensure we stay up to date with the social
expectations.
As our term has come to an end we have been
collating assessment data as well as attendance. It
is vital to ensure our records are up to date and that
you notify us of any absences. This includes if a
child is absent for multiple days. An absentee
notification is required for each day or one at the
conclusion of their absence, this is easily done using
our School Stream App or by sending in a written
note including the dates and the reason your child
has been absent. In the case we have not received
this we will be sending home a reminder notice,
please ensure you sign and return the form as soon
as possible to ensure our records are up to date and
absences are recorded correctly.
We have all had an extremely productive term with
students working well across all areas of school. Our
Student Learning Progress Reports will be sent
home in week 1 next term with the opportunity to
meet with our teachers to discuss learning progress
and student learning goals in week 2 and 3. We will
be scheduling visits from week 1 and are looking
forward to discussing the learning progress our
students have made as well as looking at personal
learning goals for each child.
Congratulations to our Bronze award recipients from
our last assembly. It is great to see so many of our
students working well and demonstrating our school
expectations of being safe, fair and respectful
learners on a daily basis.
Well done Cale, Bailey, Cayleigh, Asher, Skyann
and Joel! Keep up the great work!!
We hope that everyone has the opportunity to take
time out and spend with close family and friends
over the school holiday break, as we look forward to
our term 3 adventures! Students return to school on
Tuesday 21st July 2020
Enjoy a safe and relaxing
break, see you all in term 3!,

In our classrooms… Infants Class
Student of the week: Mia Grose Academic Award: Hunter Hamblion-Brien for Behaviour Award: Joel Broughton-Van Megchelen for making great choices in the classroom Behaviour award from week 7
We have had an amazing end to our term, we achieved 1000 class dojo points showing that we have all been working hard as a team! This week we have continued working on our adventure stories and have found our characters in a slight ‘pickle’ as they need to solve the predicament they find themselves in! We will be sending our stories home early next term to share with our families. This week we have been working on number tasks and using our number facts to create and identify patterns. We are learning how to identify the repeating elements of number sequences and how we can solve tricky problems like these ones…
What is next?
Or what is missing?
Can you help us out? How do you know? Mrs Smith
Primary Class
Behaviour - Cale Reardon-Buckland
Academic - Hugo Jones
Student of the week – Ashlee Sutcliffe The recycling has continued to take us into the holidays. This fortnight we have learned the skill of hand sewing. We recycled leftover felt and worked very hard to make pouches that open, close and look terrific!! This week, we have be using the skills we have mastered to create teddies to give our old clothes a new life! We have been creating persuasive posters in writing to encourage everyone to recycle and reduce their plastic impact. Students have used alliteration, shock tactics and eye-catching techniques to get their message across. Please make sure you make checking Class Dojo a part of your regular routine. Posts are going up daily! Having a conversation about what the students are learning helps bridge the connection between school and home, which is crucial to learning. Please comment, like and post on there to encourage our regular updates so that this continues. Mrs Scullion

SRC News
The SRC have worked very hard to have raised enough money from our meal deals to purchase some reusable plates and bowls. As part of our study on recycling, it is very important we don’t add to the pollution problem and this will allow us to use them when needed. Our meal deal this week was the last for this term. We enjoyed a delicious feast of fried rice and chicken wings. Serving meal deals that are healthy and have been prepared allow our SRC to learn some new skills as well as trying new flavours and foods. It was fantastic to see so many students trying something new! As this is our last newsletter of this term, we would like to say farewell to William W, Ruby, Bailey, Levi and William C who have been integral members of our SRC this year. Although the virus has limited our celebrations, they have made sure our school runs like clockwork and helped make our school somewhere that we want to be. Thank you for their hard work and contribution. Our new SRC will be formed in week 1 of next term and be in office for the last two terms. Use the holidays to rest and relax, but also to write a speech to tell us why you should be a part of our SRC. We can't wait to see who will join us. Mrs Scullion Library News All students have access to our School Library for borrowing and most are enjoying this great resource. However, it would be ideal to see ALL students borrowing books so PLEASE encourage them. Owlets have a library lesson on Thursdays and Raptors on Friday. Books can be returned to the tray outside the Library at any time. We are in the process of weeding out old books and then a stocktake will take place. Thank you for returning books on a regular basis. Mrs Pugh
Science and STEM News The Owlets have been learning about eggs and chocolate and how they change when heat is applied. Raptors have been investigating different materials, how they rot and how absorbent they are. Our school has borrowed a kit from the department that contains Dash Robots, Ipads and a class set of Lego WE-DO. On Friday afternoons both classes work together in pairs, exploring this technology, learning to follow a procedure to construct a robot then to program it to perform various tasks. We look forward to a visit early next term by Kath Lollback, a robotics expert, who will be available to both classes. Mrs Pugh
P&C News Our P&C will be drawing their wood raffle today! Thank you everyone who has purchased tickets… Good luck!

Jump Rope for Heart teaches school
children how to keep fit and healthy.
Conducted by teachers, children learn
physical activities to improve their
strength, gain confidence and stamina.
Students have lots of fun with their peers.
They also learn about helping save
Australian lives by asking family and
friends to sponsor them. All funds go
towards research to help the fight against
heart disease and stroke in Australia.
Premiers Sporting Challenge
This year our school has registered to participate
in the NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge.
The purpose of the Challenge is to encourage
students to participate in sport and physical
activity to lead a healthy lifestyle.
Over a ten week period Term 3, Gladstone
Public School will be monitoring physical activity
levels during class time, at recess and lunch as
well as during sport lessons. Physical activity
outside school hours will also count towards the
Challenge award. The aim is to work towards an
average at least 60 minutes of activity a day for
ten weeks.
Our school will be working towards a class-
based award and individual student award at
the conclusion of the Challenge.
We would like to invite families to support us in
encouraging students’ healthy use of leisure time
and to experience the joy of being active
together.
Each student in years 3-6 will be issued with a
logbook to record their daily physical activity.
Whilst K-2 students will work towards a Gold
class award level.
Students completing the Challenge will receive a
personalised certificate (Diamond, Gold, Silver or
Bronze), signed by the Premier of New South
Wales.
Physical activity is valued for its physical, social
and emotional benefits. It also helps young
people to develop communication skills,
confidence and resilience.
If you would like to discuss any aspect of the
Challenge, please contact Mrs Pugh who will be
pleased to talk further with you.
