edicated in the fall of 2011, the Graham

Gund G

allery advances the role of visual art as a critical centerpiece of K

enyon’s liberal-arts mission

by championing the best art and artists of the 20th-and 21st-centuries

via an active exhibitions schedule, expanding permanent collection, and

formal and inform

al learning experiences.

Public Art at K

enyon

College

Shortly after the Museum

opened several inaugural gifts from alum

ni donors and board m

embers helped launch the G

und Gallery C

ollection. B

ookending this new collection of 20th- and 21st-century art w

ere gifts of three Lew

is Hine photographs from

the first decade of the 20th-century and tw

o recent video works by Icelandic artist Ragnar

Kjartansson, w

hich were com

bined with the gift of a 1986 w

all sculpture by Louise N

evelson. In 2014, eighty works of contem

porary art were

donated by Ann and G

raham G

und ’63, further securing this collection’s im

portant focus and trajectory. Nearly one hundred additional w

orks have been donated since. The K

enyon College C

ollection includes a range of pre-20th-century art, w

orks related to the College’s history and

alumni, ethnographic objects and m

aterial culture and is managed and

cared for by the Gund G

allery. Kenyon’s beautiful cam

pus provides the perfect backdrop for a grow

ing roster of important and historically

meaningful w

orks of art from the G

und Gallery C

ollection and the K

enyon College C

ollection. Public art installations are approved and sited by the Public A

rt Com

mittee, a group of dedicated faculty

mem

bers, College adm

inistrators, staff mem

bers, students, comm

unity representatives, and gallery personnel. Publicly displayed w

orks of art now

include special QR-code labeling to provide an array of interpretive

and historical information researched and w

ritten by Gund A

ssociates, the m

useum’s student interns.
