4-H SPIN CLUBS

4-H has new SPIN clubs coming to Pulaski County. What’s a

SPIN Club? A 4-H SPIN club is a special interest club where

five or more young people learn about a topic of interest. Topics

vary and include interests, such as nature, heritage arts, sci-

ence, engineering, gardening, technology, and more. SPIN

clubs are led by volunteers who have a passion and want to

share their knowledge with young people. SPIN volunteers can

have a positive impact on the next generation of young people

in their community by sharing their experience and

knowledge. SPIN clubs are planned around the volunteer's

availability. Each club meets six or more times for at least one

hour per session. Meeting dates are set by the volunteer, based

on the availability of potential participants. The meeting loca-

tion is selected for the type of activity and number of partici-

pants. We have a SPIN Club starting in

Waynesville in August. This SPIN Club is a

Dog Training Class see page 2 for information.

SPIN Volunteers Needed

In 4-H, we believe in learning by doing. SPIN volunteers pro-

vide hands-on learning for young people. They learn to build,

create, explore, make, discover, test, plan, cut, estimate, exper-

iment, experience, measure, draw - the list goes on and on. Do

you have a passion, skill, or talent that you would like to share

with young people? You can make a difference in the lives of

young people by teaching them skills that they can use the rest

of their lives. Contact us today with your interest and and your

availability schedule and we’ll make it happen. We are also

currently looking for project leaders for Richland After School

Program, The Bear Den. Tuesday’s August through June from

4:00-5:00 pm.

Want business coaching or help with your small

business?

Area businesses now have a Waynesville location to

obtain business counseling services through the

Small Business and Technology Development Center

(SBTDC) at Missouri University of Science and Tech-

nology. A business counselor is available for Waynes-

ville/Saint Robert appointments on Thursdays at the

Pulaski County Extension Center, 201 North St.

Waynesville. To schedule an appointment, contact

Travin Shelton, email sheltontt@mst.edu or call 573-

341-6272.

Missouri S&T’s SBTDC provides business counseling

and assistance to aspiring entrepreneurs and small

businesses in the areas of management, new business

creation, business planning, business acquisition,

business sales, marketing, financial analysis, human

resources, operations management, succession plan-

ning and technology commercialization. Most services

are provided at no cost.

Microwave-safe dish Ingredients:

1 cup brown rice

3 ears of corn

1½ cups chunky salsa

4 large bell peppers, top and seeds removed

1 cup shredded cheese What to do:

1. In pan, make rice according to package directions.

2. Cut corn off cob and mix in a bowl with cooked

rice and salsa.

3. Poke each pepper 3 times with a fork. Place pep-

pers in a microwave-safe dish and fill with corn mix-

ture. Cover and cook for 10 minutes.

Sprinkle with cheese.
