A Message from your Exalter Ruler…

Greetings to all Members of the Westbrook Lodge #1784

I hope this email finds you and your family healthy, safe and positive. The Westbrook Elks would like to take the time to let you know we are thinking about our valuable Members and community. This is certainly a very difficult time, as we navigate through this unimaginable health crisis. We know this time of hardship has left so many feeling nervous, hesitant and

potentially helpless. There has been added responsibility on most families while they practice social distancing and navigate through their "new normal." For 71 years, it has been our Organization’s mission to serve our Members in the safest way possible. While the Lodge has been closed, significant improvements have taken place. A new deck off the main hall has been installed and a new sidewalk has been poured from the front entrance to the parking lot. The Main Hall and the Captain's Lounge have been freshly painted, among other improvements. A big Thank You goes out to Chef Paul, his staff and the Members that have volunteered throughout these trying times!! Dues are still being accepted through the Secretary's Office. You may call the Office to pay with a credit card or mail a check to the Lodge. In closing, we would also like to give a special thanks to the First Responders, Healthcare Professionals and all other Essential Workers who are working tirelessly to save lives and keep goods and services available for all. May God Bless You and Our Lodge. Fraternally, Joe Carpio Exalted Ruler

Veteran’s Corner

Happy National Military Appreciation Month! May was declared as National Military Appreciation Month by Congress in 1999. During May, we recognize Loyalty Day, VE Day (the end of World War II in Europe), Armed Forces Day, Military Spouses Day, and Memorial Day. It’s a perfect time to keep our service men and women in our thoughts and show them our appreciation. We were quite saddened to have canceled our March Veterans appreciation lunch. Unfortunately, because of the current restrictions and health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Summer Veteran Barbeque is being postponed. A future date for the Summer Veteran Barbeque will be determined in May. For now, please save the date for the Veteran’s Day Lunch and Flag Retirement Ceremony scheduled for Saturday, November 14th, 2020. The Westbrook Elks Lodge donated $500.00 to the Rocky Hill Veterans Home and Medical Facility in mid-April. The $500.00 donation was made in response to a call for assistance by the Rocky Hill Veterans medical and housing centers for snacks, coffee, and soap, while facilities are on lock-down and isolation. If you are committed to serving our veterans and would like additional committee information, please contact Jenell at Jenell65@hotmail.com or 860.301.9173. Respectfully submitted by,

Board of Directors: Budget Update

The vote on the proposed Budget will be held on a date TBD when the Lodge is able to resume our meeting schedule and normal activities.

A copy of the proposed Budget is available for review in the Secretary’s Office.

AS THERE IS NO SMOKING ALLOWED OUTSIDE THE LODGE BY THE FRONT DOORS, IT HAS COME TO OUR ATTENTION THAT THE RECEPTACLES FOR CIGARETTE BUTTS LOCATED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RAMP BY THE PARKING LOT AND ON THE DECKS ARE NOT BEING UTILIZED. CONSEQUENTLY, CIGARETTE BUTTS ARE BEING STREWN ON THE GROUND COMING INTO THE LODGE AND THROWN OVER THE RAILINGS FROM THE DECK ONTO THE LAWN. WE REALIZE THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO ALL SMOKERS, HOWEVER, THIS BEHAVIOR IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO THE MEMBERS WHO GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO KEEP THEIR LODGE PRISTINE. WE DO SUGGEST THAT IF YOU SEE SOMEONE THROWING THEIR BUTTS ON THE GROUND TO CONFRONT THEM AND ASK THAT THEY USE THE RECEPTACLES PROVIDED. IF WE CANNOT CONTROL THIS SITUATION THE LODGE WILL HAVE NO ALTERNATIVE BUT TO “BAN” SMOKING ON LODGE GROUNDS. BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Please confirm all events at www.westbrookelks.com

Please confirm all events at www.westbrookelks.com The Secretary’s Office is open and is processing Member’s Dues payments. Members may pay their Dues with a credit card by calling the Office at 860-399-9191, X1 or by mailing payments to the Lodge. We are unable to accept walk-in payments at this time! Please remember when the Lodge is able to open for business, Member’s Dues must be current to enjoy the Lodge, including the beach/outdoor areas. If you have already paid your Member’s Dues, we thank you and look forward to seeing you soon!

We appreciate your patience during the State mandated closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is anticipated that the Westbrook Elks Lodge will continue to be subject to social distancing and occupancy restrictions when we are allowed to re-open. This is for our Staff and Members’ safety. We greatly appreciate your understanding and compliance in this matter. Please stay safe! We miss you!
