DESCRIPTION

Range is a mobile app that identifies the nearest place in time and location for a youth to get a summer meal. We want to put Range on the phones of trusted adults -- park service employees, librarians. volunteers at summer youth workshops -- so that they can provide information to youth about available meals.

TRANSCRIPT

Range

Find the nearest place in time and location for a youth to get a free meal

THE PROBLEM

Only 1 in 6 youth who take advantage of federally funded lunch programs access available summer meals.

Increased food insecurity during the summer can lead to a greater summer learning gap. Children can gain weight two to three times faster during the summer months.

How can we increase access to summer meals?

OUR SOLUTION

We are reaching out to trusted adults – a librarian, public parks employee, community volunteer – to direct those in need of free meals during the summer.

A map view displays summer lunch locations.

Quickly view information about the locations, with an option to see more, star or check for later sharing.

A detail view provides more information about the site and the program offered.

Items that you have checked can be shared via text or email.

The recipient receives a text or email with location information.

Over time, we will add comparable information about shelter and non-emergency medical help.

THE IMPACT

Increase the number of low-income youth who access summer meals.

Increase the number of accurate referrals.

Increase specific community knowledge about summer meals.
