President’s Message
by Mike Feeney
As summer approaches, we must turn our attentions to the many events already scheduled at the clubhouse. For those who get the newsletter early, or read it on our web-site, www.readingliederkranz.com, JUNE'S WINE FEST IS A BIG EVENT. Other July events are found in this news-letter. WINE FEST and WINE PARING DINNER our fantastic Wine Fest is scheduled for Friday June 27th, Saturday June 28th and Sunday June 29th. We do have a fantastic lineup of 8 regional wineries who will be offering sam-ples, wine by the glass and bottle for purchase, and many bands. Consult the website or June newsletter. PRIVACY FENCE I am still looking for 12 more donations for our privacy fence to separate our rear upper parking lot from our beautiful wedding field and gazebo. For a donation of only $100 you can put your name on an 8 foot wide by 6 foot high section of white fencing. To do-nate send your check to the club for $100 and write on the envelope Privacy Fence. I will contact you to deter-mine what you want on your plaque. GERMANY CHRISTKINDLMARKT TRIP December 8th - 16th (Monday thru Tuesday) Strange leaving date but we did it to keep our cost low and not miss our own Christkindlmarkt on Sunday De-cember 7th. Itinerary: Arrive Munich December 9th go directly to Nuremberg (overnight in Nurnberg). Enjoy the daytime sites and the wondedful evening Christkindl-markt (a very interesting site). Go to Garmisch on De-cember 10th to the 4 star Edelweis Hotel. From the Edel-weiss Hotel we will be doing bus tours of the Munich, Innsbruck, Oberammergau/Fussen and Garmisch Christ-kindlmarkts. Evening will be riding around the country-side. For more information a flyer will be available at the club shortly. Present estimated cost is $2,695 reserved with a $200 down payment before July 31st and $2,895 after July 31st. Trip will be escorted by Mike Feeney and Kermit Ohlinger. This trip will sell out early so call me with your verbal reservation today at 484-256-5215.

The ladies are enjoying the summer after having planted some lovely flowers on the
grounds of the Club and helping to tidy up the grove. We are looking forward to the
summer events. We appreciate your support in any of our ticket sale or gift basket
raffles. Our last meeting was the end of May, and after taking a break in June and
again for this month, we will resume with our breakfast meeting on Saturday, August
23rd, at 9 a.m., at the Wyomissing Family restaurant. Please join us! As we prepare
for the fall season, if you have any lightly used German clothing to donate for our
Oktoberfest table sales, we would greatly appreciate it. Please see one of the officers
to donate - Ruth, Judi, Cherylene, or Jean. We hope you are having a lovely summer,
and plan on seeing all of you at the July 27th Club Anniversary event this month!
It’s all about the VOLKSFEST!! The Reading Liederkranz invites
you to join us for the annual Volksfest and antique/classic car show on
July 20th. The flyer accompanying this newsletter has more details
about the event. The singers will then have some time to relax as they
get ready for German/American Day which will be held at our club in
August. Also, congratulations to Heidi Hofling-Kollar and family on
the birth of their second son – Andrew. Now there are two tenors in
training for the chorus.
Germania Soccer and the Reading Liederkranz will host the annual
meeting of the local senior league which has originally met at our club
since its inception, as did its predecessor the Central Penn Soccer
League. This meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 6 , continu-
ing the tradition of Whitey Krahek, our original president, and Peter
Weiss, Germania’s co-founder and long-term president.
Well talk about a kick off to the summer. The Clambake was once
again a great turn out and thank you to all that helped out with this
event. Sorry if you missed it. There is always next year. The Bill Koss
Combo sounded great. We also will be celebrating our 65th Stiftungs-
fest/anniversary on July 12 starting at 6pm. The Adlers will be a great
band to come out and dance to. In addition there will be performances
from visiting dance groups that are coming to help with the celebra-
tion. Admission is $7.50. Flyer is inside for details. Have a great Sum-
mer!

Dear Members:
First of all, let me say thank you to the volunteers who came to the rescue these last
few functions and graciously helped at the last minute. It is difficult for the kitchen
staff to prepare additional food when they get a large count at the last minute so
food will not be in short supply, also to help in the grove for set up. Thank you, thank
you! There are lots activities throughout the summer, please check your calendar to
see if you have any time available to help us out. Call me at home 610-326-4455 , cell
610-331-3623 or email info@readingliederkranz.com and I will be happy to schedule
you for a few hours of you time, to help us. Our "Volunteers" Rock!!

travelers, and we will travel to the beautiful Catskills to Hunter Mountain's Alps Fest, with final payment due to

son deposit, is $120 pp. Bar beverages are not included in the pricing, nor snacks at the Festival, but everything
else is - lodging at the lovely Villa Vosilla, two full meals, bus transportation, hotel amenities, entry to the festival;
it will be lots of fun! We will stop for a lunch on our own in Woodstock, NY, on Monday, on the return trip. De-
parture time on Sun., 8/10, will be at 7 a.m. from the Liederkranz, and we will have a pickup in Trexlertown, Rte

- bring a swimsuit, too! For those people traveling to Ireland with us August 24 - 31st, you will be contacted soon
by Boscov’s Travel Center about our meeting to pick up all travel documents and go over final details. As always,

TRIVIA UPDATE
I think you can still hear moans and groans coming from the Liederkranz trivia teams. This month DJ Dwayne put together some tough questions, and he had most of the teams licking their wounds. Who knew baseball trivia could be so unpopular? Still, all the teams were in the same boat, and anything can and did happen on the final question. Three teams said "Go big or go home!" But alas they went home with nothing. Three teams got the final question right. Two of them, including the leader The Brewmeisters, also bet it all, and they ended up first and second on the evening. Coming in second was the Wing Nuts, a new team that moved from last to second on the final question. Welcome to Liederkranz Trivia, Wing Nuts! The last question this month went like this: "The star of this A&E reality television show when told the program's name exclaimed, 'That sounds like a Chinese food place.' " What is the program? Answer at the end. The scores for second month of the new trivia season and the overall totals to see which teams will qualify for the Schnitzel Bowl are: TEAM MAY TOTAL 1. Brewmeisters 358 704 2. Nix Noots 0 412 3. Strudelettes 0 347 4. Charlie's Angels 0 326 5. Schatzies 150 250 6. Wingnuts 156 156 7. Lederhosen Bunch 0 0 We would love to have more teams. Come out and join the fun at Liederkranz Trivia. ANSWER: Duck Dynasty.
