All research reports use roughly the same format. Itdoesn't matter whether you've done a customersatisfaction survey, an employee opinion survey, ahealth care survey, or a marketing research survey. All have the same basic structure and format. Therationale is that readers of research reports (i.e.,decision makers, funders, etc.) will know exactlywhere to find the information they are looking for, regardless of the individual report.
Once you've learned the basic rules for research
proposal and report writing, you can apply them toany research discipline. The same rules apply towriting a proposal, a thesis, a dissertation, or anybusiness research report.

THREE (3) CHAPTERS for the research proposal
FIVE (5) CHAPTERS for the final research project
Research papers usually have five chapters with well-established sections in each chapter. You should notdeviate from the standard format unless you arespecifically requested to do so by the research sponsor.

USE FUTURE TENSE for the research proposal
Use PAST TENSE for the final research project
Most research studies begin with a written proposal. The proposal is identical to the first three chaptersof the final paper except that it's written in futuretense. In the proposal, you might say something like
"the researchers will secure the sample from ...",while in the final paper, it would be changed to "theresearchers secured the sample from

1.1 Research Background Chapter I begins with a few short introductory
paragraphs (a couple of pages at most). The primarygoal of the introductory paragraphs is to catch the
attention of the readers and to get them "turned on"about the subject. It sets the stage for the paper andputs your topic in perspective. The introductionoften contains dramatic and general statementsabout the need for the study or purpose of thestudy. It uses dramatic illustrations or quotes to setthe tone. When writing the introduction, put yourselfin your reader's position - would you continuereading?

1.2 Statement of the Problem The statement of the problem is the focal point of your
research. It is just one sentence (with several paragraphs ofelaboration).
You are looking for something wrong.....or something that needs close attention....or existing methods that no longer seem to be working.
Example of a problem statement:
"The frequency of job layoffs is creating fear, anxiety, and a loss of productivity in middle management workersin Procter and Gamble, Hanoi, Vietnam.

The objectives of this study is to...... overcome the difficulty with ...... discover what ...... understand the causes or effects of ...... refine our current understanding of ...... provide a new interpretation of ...... understand what makes the company successful or

1.4 Significance of the Study This section creates a perspective for looking at the
problem. It points out how your study relates to thelarger issues and uses a persuasive rationale to
justify the reason for your study. It makes thepurpose worth pursuing. The significance of thestudy answers the questions:
Why is your study important? To whom is it important? What benefit(s) will occur if your study is done?

1.7 Research LimitationsAll research studies also have limitations and a finitescope. Limitations are often imposed by time and
budget constraints. Precisely list the limitations of thestudy. Describe the extent to which you believe thelimitations degrade the quality of the research.

1.7 Research LimitationsExamples:
The following are the limitations of the study:
1. The researchers might only gather few information due to time
constraints.2. The researchers might find it difficult to search for resources such
as business books written in English, published and unpublishedresearch, and others.
3. The researchers might not be allowed to float survey
questionnaires to all employees since managers might prioritize thedaily operations instead of other things.
4. The researchers might experience financial difficulties.

1.8 Research EthicsSome examples:
The following are some of the ethical considerations to be employed inthe study:
The researchers will acknowledge the individuals and organization forthe assistance given and promise to provide copies of the final research
project to the company. The researchers will declare if they have any connections/relationships
with the organizations to avoid conflict.
The researchers will not force the participants to answer if they refuse.
The researchers will not embarrass or ridicule participants.
The researchers should maintain the confidentiality of the informationgathered from the organization.
THESE ARE JUS FEW OF THEM. DISCOVER MORE ETHICAL ISSUES.
