Residential Grounding Guides

All available electrodes must be bonded together for for a Grounding Electrode system.

Both the 2012 International Residential Code and the 2017 National Electrical Code require all available grounding electrodes to be used.

A number 8 grounding electrode conductor is required to be protected from physical damage

A number 6 or larger grounding electrode conductor does not require protection if it follows the counours of the building

A grounding electrode conductor enclosed in a metel raceway requires a grounding connection at the raceway ends

All metal boxes require bondind. Sheet metal screws are not allowed to bond the enclosure

Concentric and knockouts require a bonding bushing, wedge or locknut for required bonding

The Intersystem Bonding terminal is required on all new electrical installations and change of electrical services to ground the low voltage systems
