Some time after his conversion, still a teenager:
“I became interested in what were called“holiness meetings” held weekly in the “Army”Hall… At these gatherings an experience wasspoken of which I felt was just what I needed.It was designted by various terms: “The SeondBlessing”, “Sanctification”, “Perfect Love”,“Higher Life”, “Cleansing from Inbred Sin” andby other expressions.”

What is sanctification?
In the Bible…
– the term ‘sanctification’ is used of persons andthings
– The thought is ‘setting apart’, ‘separating’
• set apart from ordinary uses
• to be for God's own possession and use andenjoyment
– The opposite is ‘profanation’

Two meanings of sanctification
• Positional and practical
– Positional: we are holy, sanctified, once for all, setapart for God as a result of the work of Christ onthe cross
– Practical: because we are sanctified (positionally)we also want to (and should) live holy lives, i.e.live as people who are set apart for God!
