On the 21st of June the class of E’13 attended their Matric Dance Farewell. On the 18th of July the Matrics put on a fashion show where they modelled their dresses from the Dance. The rest of the school thoroughly enjoyed the fashion show that the Matrics put on for them and there was much excitement among the audience. The younger grades delighted in seeing their Matric friends in beautiful dresses. Much of the excite-ment on the day was also due to the fact that Jimmy Nevis, the heart-throb Capetonian singer, was the entertainment and he got the audience to their feet. It was a very exciting day for the entire school and it is E’14 ’s turn next! Kirsty Schlemmer E4
MATRIC DANCE FASHION SHOW
On 27th July Rustenburg’s Earth Children Committee and society members visited Oasis in Elsies River. We developed and ran a craft workshop for 40 mentally challenged adults who work at Oasis’s recycling sorting project. The intention of this project was to demon-strate skills and inspire ideas as to how recy-cling can be used to create beautiful objects that could be used to develop a sense of per-sonal worth as well as to generate income. Initially the girls were unsure of how to com-municate effectively with the adults, as many of them have the mental capacity of a young child, but through this workshop they managed to overcome their fears. Many girls were able to connect with individuals by speaking about 7de Laan, improving their Afrikaans and just learn-ing about their individual lives. This experience truly brought a sense of warmth to the heart. Their appreciation and en-joyment of those two hours of craft with the Rustenburg girls was overwhelming. The man-ager said that our workshop brought out an en-ergy and a creative side to the adults that she had never seen before.
This was the last official project that the ma-trics were involved in. They have been contrib-uting to the society over the years and we are tremendously sad to lose them. A special thank you must go to Sarah for organising the work-shop, Julie and Nicole for creating the concept of the unique flowers and bracelets. We would like to thank Ms Chambers for en-couraging us to get out of our comfort zones and to Megan’s Mum for helping with transport. Megan van Westenbrugge, Tasneem Wilkie and Navya George

General news and information
Interact visits Huis Luckhoff On Saturday 20 July 2013, the Interact committee hosted a tea for Huis Luck-hoff. The morning was filled with deli-cious eats, from cupcakes to quiches, baked by the committee. We held a raffle for the elderly and were entertained bysome of our singers from the Interact Talent Show (Samantha Chamisa, Nikita Sofute, Aidan Dette and Sasha Marias). Through various fundraising events throughout the year we were able to do-nate a gift voucher worth R 2 500 to-wards a television they want to purchase for the home. The event was thoroughly enjoyed by all and we are looking forward to visiting them again and hearing all their wonder-ful stories. Samantha Culligan D3
During the first week of the term, two teachers, one governor and eight pupils from Stroud High visited RGHS. It was a hectic week, buzzing with fun, entertainment and hard work. The girls shadowed their host sisters at RGHS, visited Mfuleni Secondary School and managed to find time to do a lot of sight-seeing as well. The Retro Society repeated their assembly presentation on Youth Day, they joined us in celebrating Madiba’s birthday and enjoyed the Matric fashion show. Their visit to Mfuleni showed them the other side of the coin and after a tour of the Habitat houses and meeting some of the grateful home owner’s, they handed over a cheque to Habitat for Humanity – enough to build a complete house and more. This money was raised by the girls in Stroud.
They were all impressed with Cape Town and having formed strong bonds with their host sis-ters, bid a tearful farewell at the airport a week later. RGHS would like to express our sincere thanks to the host parents who made our visi-tors feel so welcome and spent so much of their time transporting them.

AFRICAN SANCTUS 2013
Well done to all the members of the CHOIR, CONCERT BAND, SLEEP BAND and the OR-CHESTRA who were involved in this magnifi-cent production on 30 & 31 July at the City Hall. We’ve had so many rave reports from parents, friends, and visitors who attended the concerts with comments such as:
One of the best concerts I’ve been to. I will remember it forever.
Better than the Bishops Pops… Thank you for the extremely talented and hard-working Rustenburg girls; it was (yet again) an
honour to work with them, and their brilliant teachers
(from Mr de Jager – SACS Music Department) Can’t you repeat the performance next week!
I just love that African Sanctus (Magdalene Minnaar – the soprano soloist, who
posted this on her Facebook page) Thank you to:
The SACS Music Department who hosted the event, produced such a beautiful post-er and programme and organized the sound for the performances, a daunting task co-ordinating the live performance and the recorded tapes.
RBHS whose Bands and Choir members participated in producing such an out-standing result, with Mr Scarr directing the superb Concert Band.
Mr Leon Starker, the inspirational guest conductor and Magdalene Minnaar, the superstar guest soloist
Mr West (for rehearsing the percussion-ists in the Sanctus Band and seeing to all the percussion arrangements)
Ms Gordon (rehearsing and assisting with all the arrangements concerning the
Orchestra and Concert Band) Ms Jamey (assisting Ms Sole with the
General Choir, refreshments and the RGHS combined rehearsals, refresh-ments at the City Hall and organizing the ushers)
Mrs Jepson (assisting with the Concert Band rehearsals and other arrangements)
Mrs Raynham (Leader of the Rimsky-Korsakov orchestra)
Mrs Mallon and Ms Weidemann (for sing-ing in the Choir)
Ms Sole (RGHS Choirs) Mr Marais and the RGJS Chamber Choir Mrs Hanger (who prepared the booking
sheets for all the schools (the expert) and sold the tickets with Mrs Cowan’s assis-tance)
Mrs Hoffmann (t-shirts and, oh, so much more)
Mrs Weston (VIP invitations) Our expert Bursars for dealing with the
financial side Our Ground staff supervised by the cam-
pus co-ordinator, Mr Nicholas, for prepar-ing the RGHS venue for rehearsals and the transportation of the percussion in-struments to and from the City Hall
To the HEADS & DEPUTIES of the CHOIRS, BANDS & ORCHESTRA for their outstanding support and commit-ment: Joycelyn Foster and Corne Oden-dal (Chamber Choir), Kirsten Jaftha and Jennifer Yuan (General Choir), Rania Da-vids and Kirsten Barratt (Orchestra) and Joo-Young Kim and Shifah Abrahams (Concert Band). Thank you and well done.
To Mrs Jeanne Pienaar of the Music Fundraising Committee for managing the Tuckshop at the RGHS rehearsals and to the generous parents who lifted the Boarders to and from rehearsals else-where and to the City Hall – thank you.
CONGRATULATIONS to the Choirs, Bands and Orchestra: you are richer by yet another large-scale choral work and some of the major repertoire for Concert Band, not to mention the opportunity of singing Eric Whitacre’s most beautiful choral work. Sleep’. EMS
