There isn‟t a doubt but that we are greatly rich.

This is the time of the year that we often think of the less fortunate.

Jesus was rich beyond measure, but he gave it up for us.

“You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich” (2 Cor 8:9, ESV).

Tonight, we want to think about what Jesus gave up in order that we might become rich.

“Became poor”=“reduced to abject poverty.”

When Jesus entered Mary‟s womb, he gave up his place in heaven.

Heaven is a place of glory & praise.

They cast their crowns before the throne, saying, „Worthy are you, our Lord and God,to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created‟” (Rev 4:8-11, ESV).

The bickering & unbelief of the Twelve.

Some of the larger group of disciples left Jesus: “After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him” (Jn 6:66, ESV).

Heaven is a place that sickness & death cannot come.

“Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away” (Rev 21:3-4, ESV).

He became a servant so that we can become saints.

We live in an increasingly selfish society.

Jesus was far from selfish.

Just how rich has Jesus made us?

He has brought us the gift of salvation.

There is nothing we can do to merit salvation.
