Description:

The Rio Vista Drive channel stabilization project was substantially completed on May 18, 2015. The existing roadside channel is located along the Northern side of Rio Vista Drive, east of Haislip Lane, and within the Kane Creek Watershed. The project provides improvements to the existing drainage channel by stabilizing the roadside ditch with a grass lined V-ditch and rip-rap trapezoidal ditch. The improvements will reduce the flow velocity, provide stability, and enhance water quality along the steep slopes leading to the Occoquan Bay.

Project Overview:• Removing concrete rubble along the existing channel• Excavating and grading the existing roadside channel• Installing a V-ditch and rip-rap lined trapezoidal ditch• Installing a soil retention mat to stabilize and establish the vegetated V-ditch• Lining the trapezoidal ditch with rip-rap• Installing an endwall at each of the existing and new concrete pipes • Stabilizing the storm pipe outfall area with geotextile fabric and rip-rap• Restoring the existing road to its original surface
