Shadycrest Elementary PTA Scholarship
Deadline: Friday, February 1st, 2019 by Noon
Purpose: To provide financial assistance for further education (at a 4-year university, junior or community college, or accredited trade school) to a former Shadycrest Elementary student
who is currently a graduating high school student from Pearland ISD.
Scholarship Award: There shall be at least one scholarship awarded yearly, and the scholarship shall be awarded in the amount of $1,000
Scholarship Eligibility:
Must have attended Shadycrest Elementary for at least one school calendar year. Must be a graduating Pearland ISD high school student. Meet school attendance guidelines as stipulated by the State of Texas. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or above, based on school’s permanent records, for the last two years.
Application Requirements: 1. Read and sign this application AND the RTCCHS Local Scholarship cover sheet. 2. Written essay of up to 200 words about the student’s time at Shadycrest Elementary.
3. Provide a transcript, personal history, and profile page. 4. Provide a letter of recommendation from an outside source. (Not a family member)
It is understood that the committee shall be composed of three (3) or five (5) representatives from the Shadycrest Elementary PTA. The committee will screen anonymous applicants and select a maximum of twelve (12) candidates. The number of
recipients will be selected according to the number of scholarships available. The committee may choose to interview the candidates as part of the decision making process.
If the committee chooses to conduct interviews, the interview dates will be determined by the Scholarship Chairperson in coordination with the THS Counselor’s office. If applicable, applicants will be notified of the interview date and time by The THS Counselor’s office.

a) Safe disposal vs. illegal dumping. What causes illegal dumping and how should we prevent it? Discuss (in detail) 3 safe dumping methods, and then provide 3 causes and proposed solutions for illegal dumping.
b) Reduce and Reuse vs. Recycling. Which is better? Provide a strong case for your argument, and then propose a way to improve the side you chose. Be sure to discuss the current conditions in the U.S for either choice.
c) Landfills vs. Open dumps. Discuss the differences between the two. Then provide a new solution on dealing with Solid Waste in the U.S.

II. To be eligible to receive the scholarship, an applicant must:
a. Be a graduating high school senior of a Brazoria or Galveston County high school.
b. Turn in completed application form accompanied by a high school transcript, and

c. Plan to attend a college, technical or trade school and take a minimum of 12 credit
hours. (Will be required to provide proof of registration.)
d. Give a personal interview before the scholarship committee if deemed necessary by
the committee.
e. The applicant must be a son or daughter of a current Brazoria-Galveston County
Farm Bureau member. If awarded, parents must maintain membership for the
duration of the scholarship.
III. The money will be paid directly to the college/school as follows:
1st Year- $500 the fall semester upon proof of registration for a minimum of 12 credit
hours. $500 the spring semester, upon proof of registration for a minimum of 12
credit hours and a minimum 2.0 GPA maintained the preceding semester.
2nd Year- $500 the fall semester and $500 the spring semester with registration for 12
credit hours minimum and minimum 2.0 GPA the preceding semester.
3rd Year- $500 the fall semester and $500 the spring semester with registration for 12
credit hours minimum and minimum 2.0 GPA the preceding semester.
4th Year- $500 the fall semester and $500 the spring semester with registration for 12
credit hours minimum and a minimum 2.0 GPA the preceding semester.
Scholarship stops if at any time the requirements for a semester are not met.

2019 SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES
Scholarship awards of (1/4 per semester) each will be given to selected outstanding Brazoria
County 12th grade students pursuing a career in any field.
Eligibility requirements are as follows:
1. Applicant must be a graduating 12th grade high school student currently enrolled in a state-accredited
Brazoria County school.
2. Applicant must be a resident of Brazoria County and at least one parent or guardian must be a current
member of the Brazoria County Fair Association. (Annual or Life Membership accepted)
3. Applicant must have competed in a scheduled fair sponsored competition for at least two years in his/her
9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade year. This includes any off-season fair sponsored event. Fair parade does
not qualify as a competition.
4. Applicant must be planning to attend a 2 or 4 year accredited or approved college or university, or trade
school.
5. Scholarship payments, to include books, tuition and related fees, will be made to the college, university,
or trade school of the winners’ choice, at the rate of $1000.00 per semester, up to $2,000.00 per year, not
to exceed $4,000.00 over a two year period. In the case of trade school recipients, payment schedule
may be adjusted to meet different semester and total term requirements.
6. Applications must be completed and received in the Brazoria County Fair Office, P.O. Box 818,
Angleton, Texas 77516 by the date specified on the application.
7. Selection of the scholarship winner will be made by the Brazoria Country Fair Association, Inc., and
will be announced at each respective school’s award program.
8. Student must pass 12 semester/quarter hours maintaining a 2.0 grade point average or will forfeit
scholarship.
9. Semester grades and proof of enrollment for the upcoming semester must be sent to the Brazoria County
Fair office before next semester is paid.
10. Merit must exist to be awarded a scholarship.

Scholarship Award:
There shall be 2 scholarships awarded to juniors in the amount of $500 each and 4 scholarships awarded to seniors in the amount of $500 each.
Scholarship Eligibility:
Must be a current National Honor Society member for at least one school calendar year. Must be a current junior or senior at Robert Turner College and Career High School.
Meet school attendance guidelines as stipulated by the State of Texas. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or above, based on school’s permanent records, for the last two years.
