WHAT IS THE HISTORY AND HERITAGE OF THIS AGENCY?
Originated in Montreal in the 1850’s. In 1914: The Misericordia Sisters
started the St. Mary's Infant Home on Bond Street while purchasing two properties on Jarvis Street.
In 1925: St.Mary`s hospital expanded to provide a medical and surgical team.
In 1952: the Misericordia Sisters purchased 28 acres of land at Lawrence Avenue and McCowan Road.
In 1956: Rosalie Hall and the general hospital were officially established in Scarborough
Rosalie Hall Celebrated their 100th Anniversary this year on October 20th 2013 in Toronto.
The Misericordia sisters celebrated their 165th Anniversary this year.
WHAT IS THE AGENCY ROLE?

To provided the community with residential, educational and child development services.
To provide counseling, assistance and hospitality young teens and families.

1. Most common reason is teen pregnancy
2. Lack of a good support system

BARRIERS THAT FAMILIES FACE
some other barriers that teens & families may face are:
1. Adoption: families decide to give the baby up for adoption.
2. Abortion: Some teens may make the decision to get an abortion and need support.
3. Children aid society: . Teens may be currently involved with CAS themselves and are in a difficult situation.
4. Miscarriages: Some teens may experience a miscarriage and require additional support in coping.
5. Drug & alcohol addiction: Some teens may be pregnant but are battling a drug or alcohol addiction.
6. Death: Other teens may have had a baby sessions or a loved one (spouse) who unfortunately passed away and they may need counselling or therapy.

INTAKE OF NEW FAMILIES & LENGTH OF TIME SUPPORT IS RECEIVED
Rosalie Hall’s residential services include a full licensed care and treatment program for young women.
5 day a week intake Walk-ins happens daily Residence up to 25
families Allowed to stay until the
age of 21 . Additional take in centers:
Massey center & Humenhouse.
PROCESS WHICH SUPPORT TO THE FAMILIES IS TAPERED OFF AND HOW IT IS DECIDED
At Rosalie Hall after you reach the age 22 and up you can no longer attend the school or continue to live on residence.
Rosalie Hall makes the necessary arrangements for each family so when they leave they are in a secure, comfortable and financially secure environment.
These follow ups can include: 1. Subsidy (housing & childcare)2. Metro Community housing3. Ontario works (welfare assistance,
job finding, benefits)
