This Week Second Collection
January 27, 2013
The Parish 411 Last Monday did not go as planned. I had planned on waking up, saying my prayers, celebrating morning Mass, and then searching and reading the paper and internet for all the info on the Patriots trip to the Super Bowl. As we all know that just didn't happen. Too bad. Maybe next year. The good news is Red Sox begin spring training in less than a month. Go Sox!
Last Monday evening we had a beautiful night of prayer as we held a Holy Hour for Life. It was an appropriate night to hold a Holy Hour for Life since Monday was the eve of the 40th Anniversary of the Roe vs Wade decision that legalized abortion in our country. In the 40 years since its legaliza-tion there have been over 55 million abortions. 55 million lives that never had a chance to be the next hero, the next saint, the next president, the next mom or dad. We have much to bring to prayer including the healing of those men and women who had to make the difficult deci-sion to have an abortion. Those men and woman are victims as well and are in great need of our support and prayers.
There were many events and observances this week around the Archdiocese and country that promoted a deeper respect for all human life from conception to natu-ral death. One of the largest events took place this past Friday when tens of thousands of our brothers and sisters from around the US participated in a March for Life in Washington DC. Our own Deacon Paul Dow and his wife Maureen were among the many thousands that participat-ed in the March for Life. The annual march for Life is a beautiful and inspiring event, especially since so many of those marching are the youth of our parishes around the country. The continued education of the evils of abortion and the devastating effect of a devaluing of a respect for all human life are so important for all of us. However, it is truly inspiring to see so many young people taking ad-vantage of these opportunities to promote the defense for all human life.
Let each of us take a moment this week to educate ourselves a little more on who we are as Catholics and our call to promote the respect of all human life. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has a great educational site on human life and dignity with many dif-ferent links to educational documents. You visit the site at http://www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/human-life-and-dignity/. It would also be good to set aside time this week to pray in a special way for our societies need to better understand and respect the dignity of all human life. As a gift from God, all human life is sacred from con-ception to natural death. The life and dignity of every per-son must be respected and protected at every stage and in every condition. Peace and Blessings, Fr. Bob

Church In Latin America
Generous gifts made to today’s Collection will fund evan-gelization, formation, and catechesis projects for the Church in Latin America. As young people from around the world prepare to make pilgrimages to Brazil for World Youth Day, the young faithful of Brazil face the hardships of poverty and violence and a lack of priests and trained lay leaders to help them live faith. The support you give today will provide opportunities for years to come. Pleas support the Church in Latin America and be generous in today’s Collection.

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Just as your body has many different parts, so it is with the Christian family. Each part of your body has a special job to do, and without that party your body could not work properly. Without your legs you could not stand up and walk.
Many different parts make up one body, and every part is just as important as another. Each one of us belongs to the one family of God and has special gifts which God has given to us. We must use these gifts to make sure that the one body of Christ works properly and is full of life.
Let’s Think About the Reading
Each part of the body does its own par-ticular job, which only it can do. You can nei-ther see with your ears nor smell with your knees! The whole body relies on the eyes for sight, and on the ears to hear, and on the legs to carry it about. No part can manage without the others; they are all equally important.
St. Paul compared us to parts of the one body of Christ. What did he mean? At baptism each of us became a member of the family of God and was invited to share in the life of Jesus who rose from the dead. Although there are many Christians in the world, together we make up one church, or one body, that believes in and follow the teachings of Jesus. When we loose a member of the body of Christ we loose a special part of us. We loose the only part that can do their special talent. What talents or spe-cial gift do you bring to the body of Christ.
Lord Jesus, you call each one of us to belong to one people, the family of God. Help us, together with our brothers and sisters, share your love with the world. Amen.
