The vedas are the basic scriptures of sanatana dharma, better known as hinduism Before begining the study of the vedas and at the end of the same, certain mantras, claaed the santimantras or peace-chants are invariably recited. they are also chanted as a part of the religious rituals prescribed by the agamas or puranas, at the appropriate places.
