DESCRIPTION

This is my remediation for my Project Three for my Composition Two (ENC 1102) class. I'm presenting it in the form of a powerpoint. I'm persuading my audience to say no to GMOs through educating them about the effects they may have on animals and human beings. The outcome I'm hoping for is for them to believe in the cause and join it. Joining would mean to avoid GMOs and spread the word to others. The presentation to this can be found at https://soundcloud.com/alexandra-a-boneva/say-no-to-gmos-presentation

Say No To GMOsBy Aleksandra Boneva

GMOs: Introduction

Also known as genetically modified organisms

An organism or microorganism whose genetic material has been altered by means of genetic engineering

Found in food that the population consumes in large amounts

Why is genetic modification done?

It helps food grow faster which leads to..

More supply which leads to..

It being cheaper which leads to..

It being more accessible which can..

Help feed the world’s growing population including..

Those in need…

So, why say NO???

Not enough research to support that it is fully safe for human consumption

A lot of research showing detrimental effects in animals

Some research showing detrimental effects in humans

Tests done on animals

Tests done on animals

Tests were done on animals including, but not limited to:

oButterflies

o Sheep

oRats

oCows

o Pigs

Tests done on animals

Some of the genetically modified food they’ve consumed:

oCorn

oCotton

o Potatoes

o Tomatoes

Tests done on animals

Outcomes include:

oDeveloping cancerous cells

o Internal bleeding

o Infertility in females

o Sterility in males

oAnd…

The ultimate, fatality

The record is not fully clean

Some effects it’s had on humans:

oAllergies

o Immune deregulation

oAltered liver function

oChanges in pancreas, kidney and spleen

o Infertility in women

It even has effects on them

Infants and GMOs

Infants that have consumed genetically modified soy have been diagnosed with:

o Food allergies

oAsthma

oBehavioral problems

oCancer

So, what now??

Surf the net

But why? How will that help?

It will help:

o Educate yourself and join/choose groups and organizations

o Educate others and spread the word through e-mail or sharing posts

o Make a website or create a page

o Get more and more people to see it, which is key

The Non-GMO Project• An

organization that educates people about the effects GMOs have

• People can volunteer to help educate others

It is easy because…

It’s a personal choice

The knowledge is accessible

Knowledge leads to spreading the word and spreading the word leads to knowledge, which is an ongoing cycle

You have the freedom of choice, so you choose!

But remember, little changes really do make a difference.
