SCIENCE ‘MOVEs’ The Grade preps!
Science in Prep
The Preps have been busy investigating forces this term and how they make objects speed up, slow down or stay in one place. As part of this unit we had ‘Hands On Science’ come and run an engaging and incursion where the Preps got to experi-ence the impact of forces first hand. They explored the forces of gravity pulling down and water pushing up by placing many different materials including plasticine and wax into water to observe whether they would sink or float. They also got to make mini cars using a variety of wheel options and discuss which ones moved best. But best of all, they made a take-home rocket to explore the relation-ship between the strength of a push and the move-ment of an object. It was a fun (and very messy) day of learning!

Oshclub News
Hello from Oshclub!
Term 4 is flying by so quickly! Our holiday program schedule should be avail-
able for parents in the coming weeks so please keep an eye out for the bro-
chure which will be placed on the doors of the GP Room.
Parents and Guardians, we ask you to please book in for before and after-
care as early as possible. Bookings close online 48 hours before the session
starts. We have had many students in the last couple of weeks with no book-
ings coming to before and aftercare. Emergency bookings can be made for
After school care by texting us before 9.15am on the day. After this time, we
cannot guarantee that your child will be accepted into the session. If there is
no place Dean has advised us that families will be contacted by the school
office to pick up their child by 3.45pm.
Please note Same Day Bookings will incur an additional late charge and any
late pickups after 6pm will be charged at $2 per minute.
With the first two days of Term 1, 2019 being Pupil Free days for the school
please note that OSHClub will be offering vacation care for both days. A no-
tice will be sent home to families soon with details.
Preparations for 2019
In preparation for the organisation of classes for 2019, all students from Prep to Year 5 are being asked to select five ‘learning partners’ that they might like to share a class with next year. A learning partner is not always the same as a friend in the play-ground. A strong learning partnership is a source of growth within the classroom, rather than a social friendship that can be a source of distraction. By the end of any year, our teachers have sound knowledge of each child’s educational, social and emotional strengths and needs, and many have discussed these needs with parents through the year. Teachers know which students need to be separated in class, those students who have friendship and other social needs, and will use this whole student understanding to do the best they can to place every child for 2019. As well, teachers will need to balance classes, reflecting a distribution of gender, abilities, and behaviours. We really would like to provide every class and every child and teacher, the very best environment for learning and teaching in the ensuing year so each group needs to be considered from a whole school perspective. To assist us with this a Signmee form has been sent out and we ask that you discuss with your child who would be great learning partners to grow with in 2019, and then to select five students from their area level (not just their class) that they believe fit this criteria. Please complete the Signmee form and submit it by this Friday November 30th. As I mentioned last week, if you have any concerns about placement please email me directly via the school office.
Classes for 2019
It’s always a challenge to get arrangements for our students and class areas right as we balance different factors such as our number of students, our staffing profile and our available space. In particular is the challenge of our growing numbers with our enrolments looking certain to breaking 380 next year. To assist with this our building works will see us able to now accommodate an extra class in the Grade 3/4 class area, growing from 4 to 5 classes. With the building works due for completion some time into the term this extra class will need to spend the first few weeks working out of the Library. We are seeing some staffing changes with extra support staff being provided to help the class teachers across the school. We are still finalizing our final staffing and will be letting the community know which teachers will be teaching where.
We are saying welcome back to some staff with the return from Family Leave of Lauren Granger, Kate Melven (in Term 2 and Blythe Neve (in Term 3.) A big welcome to a new staff member Joseph D’Aspromonte who has a provisional appointment to the school. I will be providing more information about teacher placements closer to our Meet The Teacher session on December 14.
The class room arrangements for 2019 are detailed below. I look forward to seeing how our students will take on the challenge of their new classes and, in particular our Grade 3/4’s in their renovated space.

Friday December 7
A reminder that students are invited to dress up
as an Aussie Icon and raise money for the Salva-
tion Army Christmas Appeal. Join in the fun and
bring along your gold coins for this worthy
cause! Swimming Grade Prep—5
Monday November 26 to Wednesday December 6 Just a reminder to all families that the swimming program will be taking
place all through this week and finishing next week on Wednesday.
Students were reminded at Assembly of how they may help by preparing
for their lesson each day in the following ways:
1. Getting their swimming bag ready each evening. (This can even be a
plastic bag with their undies, towel and bathing cap in it!)
2. Having their bathers on each morning under their school uniform
and their swimming bag in their school bag.
3. When they come home getting their wet things out of their
swimming bag and having them out to dry.
4. Being ready to do it all again the next day!!
I hope everyone is able to remember to help so they are ready for a great
swimming lesson!
