THIS IS MY FAMILY. JUNK FOOD
This poem is recited for a message to be spread
About the harm in the food that our generations are fed
Most of us refuse to swallow our greens
But we are so disappointed
When we have to buy a bigger size of Jeans.
It is sad that we opt for taste
I think we should realize
What we eat is a total waste.
A burger is easily available and cheap
But we ought to know
The consequences are dangerous and deep.
There is oil, fat, and grease
And the addiction to it
Is really a disease.
Obesity is not some new trend
There are backaches each time young people
bend
Calories are foes in the disguise of a chocolate
friend.
This is an era of Science
The time when we really know
What we should eat and what we must throw.
The sad irony is
Now is the time most of us are ill
But in the battle of tomato and chips
The veggies we will kill.
So go beyond the temptation
And support the beans
We must eat our greens!

MISTAKES
My mother is the bestShe knows where everything is
Whether it is east or westMy father is no less
He leaves home at nineAnd he works in a press.
My sister is so cuteShe is very talkative
She never keeps mute.Grandpa loves me a lotHe tells me new stories
I wonder where he was taught.Grandma loves cooking
She makes tasty dishes easilyI can’t help but keep looking.
I am the youngest Yet the smartestI am a bit silly
But I love my family! This is my family
We live very happilyThere isn’t any sign of hate
For dinner no one is ever late!!!Shrey Goel, VI-B
When a writer makes a mistake
It is a new word
When a scientist makes a mitake It is a
new invention
When a teacher makes a mistake
It is ‘fun teaching’
When an artist makes a mistake It is a
new painting
When a cook makes a mistake
It is a new dish
But when a child makes a mistake
He is guilty, he has to pay
Why is that so? It isn’t fair

THE STORY OF OUR FREEDOM
There was a time when we were also rich
We also had gold, silver and platinum to enrich
But someone from somewhere had his evil eye on them
So when Vasco Da Gama found the route
Soon the foreigners began to rule.
It started as a trading company and soon came to be known as the East India
Company
But its greedy thoughts soon increased
We tried to make them friends but they turned out to be enemies
They took away our liberty so that we should live in slavery
But we didn’t despair and decided our country should be repaired
Then were born many great leaders like the Father of the Nation and our
beloved Chacha
Who not only gave us the courage to fi ght them but also the hope to be free
They worked day and night for us to get our rights.
At last when they departed from here, they partitioned India into two
One Pakistan and the other Hindustan
It is so easy to read such things in books
But very diffi cult to feel the pain which those Indians had felt
Thousands of Indians gave their lives and shed their blood for freedom
So that tomorrow we could live in peace and harmony
For us this is like an anecdote
And very easy to put a full stop
But for those who were there
For them it is “THE STORY OF OUR FREEDOM!”

UNIQUENESS OF CHILDREN
Spreading sweetness in tonnes
Of all ages these are the loved ones
The world’s new hope they are
Victory in this universe they will empower.
Flourishing in slums or in new homes
Naughtiness is in their blood and their bones
Blooming like fl owers, happy and colourful
How much they shout! Even then they are beautiful.
Children are stars that twinkle in the sky
When they run by you, you feel a storm occurring nearby
They have tiny hands and tiny feet
They have the courage to dance to any music beat.
Fragrant is their smile, which touches hearts
Breaking communal barriers, this is why they are called
nature’s art
They can make you smile, even in the most dolorous
moment
Time spent with children, you will never repent.

LUCK
He worked by day
And toiled by night
He gave up play
And some delight.
Boring books he read
New things to learn
And forge ahead
Success to earn
He plodded on without any fun
And to his focus stuck
And when he won
People called him Luck.
Shivangi Sareen, VI -B
SPREAD HAPPINESS
Time passes, people go
Kindness is what people forget to show
This is where people mostly fall
Because love is what binds us all
Arrogance is all around
But we have all taken birth on the same ground
Think about others as you think about yourself
They will surely be there when you need help
Be happy and spread happiness too
That’s why God sent you
Let people see your golden heart and not the
gold you possess
Money is not the only sign of success.
Pooja Kami, XI
TEARS
A tear can mean a thousand words
that were failed to be expressed.
It often shows loneliness and fear
that could not be suppressed.
It falls down often
a mother’s eye
when her child is hurt
She silently cries
It also wets a dad’s eye
when his little girl is grown up , ready for the goodbye
Some people break, when times are tough
they’re thinking in their head
They’ve had enough
Others sit around and cry alone
when they sit on strange land and think of home
Some weep waiting for a new start
In search of someone who can mend their broken heart
A tear can mean a thousand words
that were failed to be expressed
Anusha Arif, X-A
FRIENDS FOREVER
Sitting in an empty room
As I think about my past
I remember the promises we made
That our friendship will forever last
The times we spent together
Laughing, playing, bunking classes
Chatting during the breaks
Hanging out together wearing our sunglasses
I wish we friends could have stayed together
But all that’s left is memories in photos
Of when we roamed around the city in autos
But I know that we can’t be separated
Because we both are meant to be together
And even though we have only our phone numbers
We will surely remain friends forever.

MY BROTHER
My brother’s name is Geet
So my parents decided to call me Meet
He is elder to me by six years
People have nicknamed him ‘Mr. Big Ears’
He used to play cricket for Delhi State
And he is my best mate
Under his captaincy, his team always won
Because in every match he used to hit a ton
To death will I love my brother
Like him, in this world there is no other
He is always there when I am in need
He is a great brother indeed !

MAGIC OF RAIN
Can you even imagine
Our world without rain?
All our efforts to prosper
Would be in vain
Earth would be lifeless
Without the showers
Neither would we get anything to eat
Nor would the gardens have any fl owers.
The wonders of rain are countless
It creates delightful scenery
The Earth becomes cooler
And full of greenery
Birds chirping, peacocks dancing
And children playing in puddles
Paper boats fl oating in water
And rains giving happiness in abundance!
Harneet Kaur, X-A
MY MOTHER
Everyone feels the need of a person
Who is always there for them, come what may
And I’m no exception
I’m just like others but the difference is that
I already have that person in my life, ever since I opened my
eyes
Whenever I’m happy, whenever I’m sad
Whenever I’m supposed to be guided
Whenever it is required for me to differentiate between the
good or the bad
Whenever I want to be taken care of, whenever I feel the need
to be loved
She’s always there
She shelters me in days that are cold
She always hugs me in good times
Her arm catches me if I slip or I fall
Her ear is there for all my problems
With her, my secrets and feelings I share
She’s been with me all through the years (huh! Isn’t that
obvious?)
Whenever I want to shed some tears
Whenever I want to reveal some really embarrassing things I’ve
done
She knows it all
And I take great pride to say, It is my mom.
Mom, you built the confi dence in me
You taught me to always stand by the truth
You taught me to be honest, you taught me to be positive
You taught me to fi ght for my rights
And to live and let live
Whatever I am today
It’s all due to your hard work, patience and affection
I know they say that it’s destined but deep down
I know it’s you..!

We, the 2011 Batch of Class X Are!
Time passed by and here we are
49 of us, each one a bright star
Counting down now the last few days
We’ll all choose our different ways
For the last time, let’s look at it all
From chatting, snatching tiffi ns to roaming around
in malls!
The biggest loner of the batch
The sight of him smiling is hard to catch
Yeah, its Varun I’m talking about
Mr. Lonely will reject you with a pout
Now, the exact opposite of Mr. Lonely
Cheerful and fun, been with us for 2 years only
Tayyab is the funny guy, he is not tame
Still he cracks his jokes with no shame
The Queen of Poetry, I’m sure you know who
From where Tarushi gets her words, I’ve got no clue
She is bubbly yet a serious little thing
She’ll often laugh around but will engage in no fl ing
If you hear a giggle during the assembly, don’t be
shocked
It’ll defi nitely be Kritika, who in her own toilet once
got locked!
Gone through a lot, she’s a tough one
For her life is still, “Just for fun!”
She is so skinny yet so cute
Except for when with her gang she stays mute
Sahifa is more about clothes and heels
Walking down a place, every look she steals
With a friendly smile, she’ll give you a Hi5!
The pretty Sakshi will then change it into a sarcastic
snide
Won’t laugh at your joke but will laugh at you
But when you need her she’ll help you too
She is the ‘sister’ of every ‘brother’ you could fi nd
In her friends’ love Kajal is totally blind
You’ll always see her smiling, laughing or having fun
With a lot of warmth, she is our batch’s sun
She’s the Vice Sports Captain, so she’s mostly on the go
Despite being so busy, in friendship Jellybean never falls low
She might not always be there, but is certainly when you need
An all rounder, to comments she pays no heed
If some innocent jokes you want to hear, to Hafsah you should go
With her cute laugh again and again, she speaks kind of slow
Always talking to her friends she never focuses in class
All the girls became back benchers and had a blast
The stylish one with fashion’s latest trends
Tanisha is the one who has many friends
Smiles at everyone that smiles at her
The memory of her with spectacles is now a pretty blur
And here comes the future Punjabi singer!
Abhimanyu produces tabla sounds with a desk and his fi nger
Can make you fall on the ground with his jokes so funny
And he comes and snatches it if he sees any money
You’ll hardly fi nd him sitting in his place
Anuj or Juna (as he’s better known) will search the school for any
danger’s trace
There is more to Juna, than his friends know
The big guy has a great heart that he unwillingly shows
He’ll always be there if trouble you’ve got
But if you touch his hair, his anger you’ve shot
Harman is adorable but the angry young man
For when he’s in trouble he won’t tell you, it’s for you to scan
She’s an artist but, she never shows
During winters, pink Anandi’s nose glows
She’ll silently laugh at jokes while she sits with friends
And very easily out of trouble she bends
With a black muffl er and spectacles she looks very different now
Remaining ever so skinny I don’t know Aliya manages how?
Popular in school, she talks to almost everyone
She doesn’t really think, she just wants to have fun
Another pretty girl in our batch

I wonder where Sophia will fi nd a match?
No matter what she does, her hair falls perfectly
With her silly jokes, she always brings glee
Her loud laugh and winks make her so cute
Unlike Sahifa, she hardly ever stays mute
Areeba is the one-stop entertainment
From where she gets her jokes, I have no hint
Crazy and loud is how people describe her to be
The awesome part of her these people fail to see
Though people comment, Sukhmeet pays no heed
Except for her ‘GANG’, no one else she needs
From far away, she may seem rude
But Simran is the exact opposite dude
She is so caring and so direct
If she doesn’t like what you said, she will react
The “Hitler” of our batch but only in school
At a party, like all of us, even he acts cool
Sarthak is the total responsible type of guy
Relax! At times it’s okay to tell a white lie!
Don’t want to mention what people call him
Anyway, it doesn’t make a difference to him
Akshay is a hard worker, he’ll get his reward
But please, make him a little less formal, lord!
The tall guy who sits at the back of the room
Farhaan, is a guy whom I’ve never seen in gloom
Though he asks a lot of questions which make no sense
P.T. is on his mind forever, so no place for study, hence
Some call him a brother some say we’re just friends
With everyone in a unique way, his relationship Ahmed mends
He’s popular with teachers and juniors as well
It’s because with everyone he knows how to gel
“Can I ask a question?”
Is a question asked everyday?
Then Ashish twists the question in every possible way
He has also got his enactment skills along side this
Which always leave the class in bliss
If Sonika ma’am calls someone, who will it be?
Yeah, of course, who else? Zulfi !
Zulfi qar is the second Mathematics and Physics teacher of the
class
So tell me what is the refractive index of glass?
He won’t let you know if he did something
Milandeep, won’t tell you if he knows anything
He’ll just sit there and enjoy the show
With a partial smile and an extraordinary glow
He was the basketball champion, now he is a party one
Vishnu makes a fi ght fi ercer, just to have fun
Partner of Juna in roaming around
Creates chaos with his group in the ground
No matter who you are, with him you’ll be friends
For anytime you have a problem, his ear Gandhi lends
A football champion, ruined his health
Haven’t you with enough problems dealt?
He is very helpful no doubt about it
But if you make Khanna angry, then you’ve had it
An intelligent guy he will go far
If only he quits anger and uses his brain power
‘Enrique rocks!’ you’ll fi nd this scribbled everywhere she’d go
A tiny little laughing ball, you tickle, she’ll blow
Manleen is small but her personality is big
With a disgusted look she’ll call you ‘Sick’
She’ll make you roll on the fl oor laughing if she’s in the mood
But if she gets angry, don’t you mess with her, dude!
With just one look, Hiba can kill you
And when she comes dressed up, survivors are few
Puts in all her effort in anything she does
Meghna remains quiet, creates no fuss
Laughs a lot when with her friends
She doesn’t give in to any new trend
Silent she remains but does everything
For when Manavta ma’am calls, everything she brings
Sidra is extremely cute, she doesn’t show it
Remains humble, doesn’t blow it

From what he was like, he has changed a lot
Becoming more open, many friends he’s got
Ateeb is passionate about Basketball forever
His stares in class make people shiver
The entire year she sat on the last bench
With a novel in her hand she’d clench
You ask Harneet something and she’ll shut you up
But if a problem you’ve got, her hardcore nature she
quickly gives up
If you don’t talk to her much, you’ll falsely believe
she’s silent
But in reality, Tahani is extremely violent
Talented she is, but keeps it all in
Her own creations she throws into the bin
Tired of being compared to his sis
Tufail is the one who always spreads bliss
Always works hard not to let anyone down
With so much on his shoulders, he hardly has a
frown
“No ma’am, it’s going to be this way”, she’ll always
say
Twarit is polite and very caring
But if something is wrong in mathematics, anyday
To oppose she is the most daring
‘Party, Party, Party!’ she’s never going to miss
To her best friend she silently blows a kiss
Dharna can mingle with everyone
She just wants to laugh and have a lot of fun
A musician at heart
From the crowd Simi stands apart
Knows each guitar chord so well
Loves her group but with everyone gels
A mischievous fellow, keeps you in the dark
Ghanisht’s anger gives out a spark
Looks so innocent but he changes the game
‘Golu’ is his new name
It’s diffi cult to make out a word of what he says
Full attention in class he pays
Anupam is the serious one
Mathematics and Physics are his idea of fun
Aims to be a CA one day
Rajat knows it is no child’s play
So what if he doesn’t speak much
‘Actions are louder than words’ I guess he believes such
From the bad guy, he has tremendously changed
If you ever go out with him, he’ll be busy on the phone
Vaibhav is now serious and all for it
This new version has proved to be a big hit!
A psychologist, an artist or what should I be?
The adorable young lady can be anything she wants to be
Some fi nd her freaky, some say, she’s lame
But with everyone Sanjum stays just the same
This young gentleman can’t leave his hair alone
His mom complains, he always stays on the phone
Saqib is the guy who smiles at everyone
But is also the fi rst one, of others to make fun
His jokes, let’s not get there
They go over your head
He never repeats himself; what’s been said is said
Laxman laughs at his own jokes while others stand and stare
He ignores and continues laughing, cause he really doesn’t care
You can’t make out what he’s feeling, going by his straight face
And his jokes, they have no head or base
Akshit or Bhalla as he is known
As a Barbie Girl in the Pinnacle was born
And, now of course, who am I?
The one who to everyone says “hi”
I am the little sister of the entire batch
If I fall, there is always someone to catch
Yeah, you got it, Anusha it is
To my entire batch blowing a fi nal goodbye kiss!

RED CROSS SOCIETY
They wipe tears
Fill hope into the empty
An open door
Healers of hurt
Protectors of handicaps, the
vulnerable
They relieve the wounds, the
affl ictions
They are the warriors
And the peace makers
They comfort, they console, they
cure
The agony of all victims.
And for this, we thank them.
We owe it to them for their constant

TEENAGE YEARS...
Teenage life has never been easy
Apart from fashion and peers, there is a lot more to a teen.
Frequently changing boyfriends and girlfriends
During teenage, this is one of the most followed trends.
Oh! On clothes and every famous brand
Each one of us is ready to spend a million grand!
But there are times when we feel lonely and lost
And what we really need does nothing cost.
Just a friendly and appreciative word from a parent or teacher
Isn’t that what it takes to cheer a creature?
To others, we may seem a little weird
But we are too confused with our pimples and beard.
Our feelings, always seem to be on a roller coaster ride
Sometimes fi lled with jealousy and sometimes with pride
One second we’re happy, the other we’re sad
But still it’s the best time we ever had!

MY MOTHER - MY HERO
She gave me life and made it worth living
that’s my mother - kind and giving
She’s my hero; she’s my friend
Always ready with a helping hand to lend
She’s my teacher; she’s like my peer
she’s the one who takes away my fear
Loving me is always her fi rst priority
And all she’s worried about is my security
She’s the best person one can have in one’s life
The best mother, the best daughter and the best wife!

NATIONALISM
Our heroes fi ght for the country’s pride
From day to night, till their last breath they fi ght
With sweat and blood and without the fear of dying
Leaving their family members crying
Fighters leave their motherland
With many memories grand
Soldiers fi ght with enthusiasm and pride
Taking great dangers in their stride
Thanks to them we have an independent nation
So let’s live without sorrow, pain and frustration
I JUST WANT YOU TO BE AROUND
My life is complete
When we meet
Or even talk a word or two
And all the things we do
You are always there
And always do care
About how I am
You encourage me whenever you can
At fi rst, we did not know what to say
How to deal with things happening in our lives
But with you by my side
I just did not want to give up
You are my best friend
And always will be
Even though we are far apart
Maybe in distance, but not at heart
Stay this way
And don’t ever change
Even if no one else is to be found
I just want you to be around

WHO AM I?
Who am I?
What am I?
I’m the naughty guy.
Who speaks a lot
Many prizes whose got
But still is very shy.
You don’t know me at all
I’m neither handsome, nor tall
But I obey in just a call.
I never let anyone shed a tear
But everyone’s scolding I bear
To hurt anyone I would never dare
My secrets with everyone I do share
I never let anyone cry
But why do they say that everyone’s patience I do try ?
Really, who am I?
Am I the naughty one?
Or the noisy one?
Or the loving one?
Or the caring one?
I don’t know
Neither do you know
The answer to my question
Who am I?

OLD AGE
Those eyes hidden behind wrinkles
Have seen the world much more than you ever will
They aren’t destined to stare at that speckled wall
Their sight, it’s fading away, nothing is visible at all
Those hands that once supported you
Have no power left or work to do
They aren’t meant to die holding sticks
Shouldn’t you have been here? You have some things to fi x.
Those legs that now can hardly walk
Were where you rested your head and would talk and talk
But now, they just rest on a chair
‘Cause now for them no one seems to care
Those eyes shimmer when they see your face
Hands tremble, legs struggle to keep their pace.
They watched from afar
As you became a star
They bloomed in your light
For you, they can still fi ght
But you’re a busy man, you’ve got a life!
Back home you’ve got kids and your wife.
You’re a success! Who cares about those folks?
Above all their happiness, you they chose.
Those tired eyes, hands, legs and smile
In this Old Age Home will fade out after a while.
Anusha Arif, X-A
HEAL THE WORLD
Someone is crying out there
The voice can be heard crystal clear
Someone’s tears are fl owing
Through bad times someone is going
Someone has lost someone dear
Someone is fi lled with fear
The fear of anguish and pain
That might come back again
Someone needs help, someone’s calling
Through the rubble someone is
crawling
Everything we can see and hear
Deep inside our hearts, we do care
So let’s join hands, and listen to our
hearts
Let’s join hands, cause we were
never apart
Let’s come together and heal each
single man
Cause you and I, both know that
we can
Let’s help those in need
Let’s do another good deed
Another day may not be there
So let’s do it, as long as we’re here
We can’t do great things, but we can
do enough
Let’s do small things, but with great
love
Even a smile can heal the pain
Let’s make the efforts, they won’t go
in vain
Let’s do it, with a big grin
’cause each man, has the same heart
within
Let’s leave all the hatred behind
Lets be a little more kind
Let’s be the change we want to see
It all starts with you and me
So let’s remove every reason
causing a tear
And pray to God high up there
Pray that there remains no more
sorrow
Raise hands and pray for a better
tomorrow!
