TITLES We sure like titles, don’t we? Regional
Manager, District Supervisor, Vice-
President, Executive Director, Chairman of
the Board, President. You never see a
letterhead or an ID badge with ”Flunky” on
it!
We want everyone to know we are
somebody. Then Jesus comes and says,”Not
so in the Kingdom. The greatest will be the
least. Greatness will be found through
service”( read Matthew 20:20-28 and John
13:1-17.) What an upside world we live in.
Imagine moving up by bending down!
James, the brother of the Lord, was
really something in the early church. He
knew Jesus since he was a boy; he was his
brother. Jesus appeared to him personally
after the resurrection. He was a leader in
Jerusalem, met regularly with the apostles
and was an advisor to Paul. So when he
introduced himself, what did he write on his
resume? “James, a servant of God and of
the Lord Jesus Christ” (James 1:1).
The greatest title we can wear in the
kingdom of Christ is that of “servant”.
“Yet it shall not be so among you; but
whoever desires to become great among you
shall be your servant.” (Mark 10:43).

SERMON TOPICS FOR MARCH 6 Sunday AM – “The Battle Rages On!” Joshua 10 Sunday PM – “Don’t Get Too Comfortable” 1 Peter 2: 11-12
WHAT HE WAS LOOKING FOR
Jim Smith went to church one Sunday morning. He heard the song leader miss a note, and he winced. He saw a teenager talking when everybody was supposed to be bowed in prayer. He felt like the usher was watching to see what he put in the offering plate, and it made him mad. He caught the preacher making a slip of the tongue five times in the sermon by actual count. As he slipped through the side door during the closing hymn, he muttered to himself, “Never again! What a bunch of hypocrites”. Ron Jones went to church one Sunday morning. The church sang, “A Mighty Fortress” and he thrilled to the majesty of it. He was glad to hear that the church was sharing a special offering for the mission work in Nigeria. He especially appreciated the sermon that Sunday. It answered a question that had bothered him for a long time. He thought as he walked out the door, “How could a man come here and not feel the presence of God?” Both men went to the same church service on the same Sunday morning. Each found what he was looking for…. “Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.” Psalm 29:2 via church of Christ, Ripley, TN

RING THE MESSAGE OUT!
1 Thessalonians 1: 6-8, “You also became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word
in much tribulation with the joy of the Holy Spirit, 7 so that you became an example to all the
believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. 8 For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you, not
only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God has gone forth, so
that we have no need to say anything.”
In 1 Thessalonians, Paul writes to the Christians in Thessalonica sharing his thanksgiving
for their faith in the Gospel of Christ. While at one time they had served idols, now they had
turned from their idols to start serving the living and true God! Their lives had been completely
changed because of the Gospel of Christ.
But what has always been so powerful to me within this passage is what Paul wrote in
verses 7 and 8. The Thessalonians were examples to the believers in Macedonia and Achaia in
how to live a faithful life. But not only were they examples to the believers in Macedonian and
Achaia, they were also sharing the gospel in every place that they were going…I take it, no matter
where they were at and no matter who they were around, they were sharing the Gospel…they were
sharing about the life they used to live in comparison to the life they were living now after hearing
the Gospel of Jesus Christ! The message of the Gospel was ringing out from them.
Is the message of the Gospel ringing out from us? Would we be known as a congregation
that is an example of how to live a faithful life to all believers in Mayes County? Would we be
known as a congregation that speaks about the Gospel of Jesus no matter where we are or who we
are talking to?
We can talk about a lot of things, but there is only one thing that is going to save
someone’s life and that is the Gospel. We need to be living the Gospel and sharing the Gospel on a
daily basis. If we want this congregation to grow, we need to be ringing out the message every
day!
