Creating Reports Using Adobe Analytics This quick reference is intended to assist library staff in using Adobe Analytics. Adobe Analytics is a cloud-‐based application that can be accessed from any browser for custom, real-‐time reports on how patrons and staff members are using WorldCat Local at your institution.
Sign In Sign in to the Adobe Marketing Cloud’s Reports & Analytics at: https://sitecatalyst.omniture.com/login Fill in the login screen with your institution’s credentials. Be sure to type WorldCat as your company name and select Version 15 from the dropdown below the password field when logging in. Click Sign In. If it is your first time logging in, you may be asked to agree to Adobe’s terms of use agreement. After agreeing, you will be directed to your institution specific landing page for Reports & Analytics. Note: Adobe Analytics has a comprehensive Analytics Help and Reference area. After signing into your account, click Help in the top right corner to browse or search their support area.
Adobe Analytics Basics Basic navigation tips:
1. The navigation on the left hand side allows you to move between the available reports. 2. Reports default to the current processing month and will load with month-‐to-‐date data. Click the calendar in the
upper right corner to open the data selection widget and re-‐run any report with your selected reporting period. 3. To make use of the displayed report, you can download or email a PDF, CSV, Excel or Word version of the report.
There is also the option to Bookmark the report so that you can revisit it from your Favorites menu at anytime.

Pre-‐defined Traffic Reports Follow these steps to view traffic reports:
1. Click Custom Traffic in the left navigation menu. 2. Click Custom Traffic 1-‐10 or Custom Traffic 11-‐20 to expand report options. 3. Choose the Custom Traffic report you wish to view and adjust the date of the reporting period as desired.
Descriptions of the available reports are as follows: Custom Traffic reports 1-‐10 Report Description Internal Search Terms Reports all search queries sent to the search engine from anywhere on the site. This
includes Subject and Author links. Number of Search Results Counts the search results returned for each search. Search Type Reports count of searches from various sources throughout WorldCat.org. To
interpret report variables use our Search Type Glossary. Refined Search Criteria Counts usage of facet categories (Author, Year, etc.). Note: Format counts are
inaccurate. A fix is under investigation. Language Counts pages viewed with different languages set in the user’s browser. User Status Counts pages viewed by users in different authentication states, including:
Unauthenticated, IP authenticated against a WorldCat Local institution, LDAP authenticated (logged into the Web site with their WorldCat account), and both IP-‐authenticated and logged in.
User Status Activity Combines the User Status report with a more granular view of what specific pages users were viewing in their authentication states.
Number of Registrations Counts Registration Confirmation page views (a good indication of how many WorldCat accounts were created).
Detailed View Landing Method
Counts pages from which users have linked to detailed records.
Number of Detailed Views Counts detailed record page views. Custom Traffic reports 11-‐20 Report Description Refined Search Values Counts specific elements selected out of the Refine Your Search facets in the left
column of the search results page, Advanced Search refinement selections, and sorting options chosen.
Selected Book Counts views of specific detailed records. Form Type Counts views of forms New/Repeat Customer Counts page views generated by new vs. repeat users for the given timeframe. Sub-‐Page Name Discontinued report. Visit Number Shows page views generated by visit count. For example, shows all the page views
generated by users who were visiting the site for the fifth time. Scope Selected Shows whether, on a given search, a user did or did not change their scope (e.g.,
switch from all of WorldCat to the local institution). If both scopes are the same, the scope did not change for that search.

Advanced Searches by Fields Used Report (Correlative Report) Adobe Analytics allows you to use variables from one custom traffic report to filter another. The example shown in the picture below starts with a Search Type report and then filters the focus of the report to advanced searches (e.g., searches that include an index indicator like su:, ti:, au:, or no:) grouped by Internal Search Terms.
1. Click Custom Traffic on the left navigation menu and select Custom Traffic 1-‐10. 2. Select Search Type to generate the Search Type report. (See the Search Type Glossary for help understanding
the results in the report.) 3. The Search Type report tells you how many searches were conducted from various search areas. To correlate
the searches conducted from your institution’s advanced search box with another report, click the tree menu next to “advanced” on your list of Search Types.
4. From here, select Custom Traffic, Custom Traffic 1-‐10, then select Internal Search Terms to generate the correlative report.

Hint: Use the search box to filter the Advanced Searches by Fields Used report by index indicators Internal search terms preceded by certain index indicators determine which field was used:
• su: = subject • ti: = title • au: = author • isbn:, issn:, no:, oclc: = matching standard number • kw: = keyword
Advanced Searches by Limiter Report This report shows only those search limiters that patrons and staff used for Advanced Search.
1. Click Custom Traffic on the left navigation menu and select Custom Traffic 11-‐20. 2. Click Refined Search Value. 3. Using the report’s search box (as depicted in the screenshot above) search for “advanced.” The results will be
filtered to advanced searches as all limiters are prefaced with “advanced.” Index indicators as follows: dt: = document type from Format limiter
x0: = primary format from Format limiter x4:= secondary format from Format limiter -‐fm: = Content limiter or Audience limiter yr: = publication date / date range ln: = language
Search Terms which resulted in No Hits Report This report lists searches that retrieved no results and ranks the searches by how often each term was searched.
1. Click Custom Traffic on the left navigation menu and select Custom Traffic 1-‐10. 2. Click Number of Search Results. 3. On the Number Search Results Report, click the tree symbol to the left of the “0” on the numbers list. 4. From the menu that appears select Custom Traffic, Custom Traffic 1-‐10, then Internal Search Terms to generate
the correlative report.
