January13,2017 DearSororsandGuests,It is indeedanhonorto joinyouonthis important journeytoSacramento forAKADayat theCapitol.Thisyear’stheme,“SistersLeadingForJustice”engendersourcontinuingdedicationtopromotingsocialresponsibilityandcommunityengagement.Iampleasedthatsomanyofyourecognizethesignificanceoflendingyourwisdomtothelegislativeprocessthatguidesourdailylives.Given today’s political climatewe are reminded that progress cannot bemadewithout our collectiveenergy spurring the evolution of our laws and policies. Our elected officials need our guidance andsupportastheymakedecisionsthatimpacthealthcare,education,socialservicesandmore.Theyneedtohearfromusintheirquesttodothemostgoodwiththelimitedavailableresources.Itisparamountthat we ensure our voices are heard and that our resolve to uplift the social consciousness of ourcommunitiesremainsteadfast.Whenthisillustrioussisterhoodwasfounded109yearsago,ourfoundersperseveredthroughthemostunfavorablepoliticalenvironments imaginable. Theyunitedinsisterhoodandweretenaciousintheirpursuitofracialandgenderequality.Becauseoftheirsacrificeandthatofsomany,wenowhaveaseatat the table on our political course. We must not take that for granted. We must be strategic andobstinateinensuringthatourlawsarefairandequitableandwillpropelourstateforward.I’mproudthatwearetakingthisopportunitytoengagewithourelectedofficialsandofferthemguidanceastheymakeimportantdecisionsaboutourfuture.Again,Ithankyoufortakingtimetobeapartofthechange.Iamcertainthatwewill learnmuchandwalkawaywithagreatersenseofprideforhavingparticipatedinthisexperience.Iwouldliketoalsoexpressmyappreciationtothestate legislatorswhowelcomeandsupportus inoureffortstomakeadifference.Togetherwecanaccomplishsomuch. REGIONALREFUNDPOLICYOnceyouregisterforaRegionalEvent,thePlanningCommitteeincludesyourpresenceattheeventintheplanningactivitiesfortheevent.ThesizeofthemeetingroomandthemealcountsconsideryourregistrationaspartofthenumberofSororsattendingtheevent.WeunderstandthatunexpectedeventsoccurthatmayrequireyoutocancelyourattendanceattheRegionalEvent.Ifyoumustcancel,pleasenotethefollowingcriteriawilldeterminewhetheryouareeligibleforarefundofyourentireregistrationfee:

1. TherefundrequestmustbeinwritingandsubmittedtotheFarWesternRegionSpecialAssistanttotheRegionalDirectorwithacopytotheRegionalTreasurerandtheRegionalTechnologyChairmanatthee-mailaddresseslistedbelow.

2. Therefundrequestmustbedatednolaterthanoneweekbeforetheconveningoftheconferenceinordertoreceiveafullrefundlessaprocessingfeeof$25.00.

3. Thereasonfortherefundmustbeincludedintherequest;i.e.workrelated,familyemergency,etc.

4. RequestsdatedlaterthanoneweekbeforetheconveningoftheconferencemaybeconsideredatthediscretionoftheRegionalDirector.Additionaljustificationregardingtherefundrequestmayberequired.

Ingeneral,refundswillbemadeafterconsiderationofthefollowingfactors:1. Fundsareavailableafterallexpensesassociatedwiththeeventhavebeenpaid.(Therefundmay

notbepaiduntilupto45daysaftertheevent)2. Aprocessingfeeof$25.00willbeappliedtothetotalregistrationfee.3. Iftherequestforrefundisreceivedwithin10dayspriortotheRegionalEvent,theportionofthe

registrationfeeappliedtomealeventswillbereducedtocoverthecostofthemeal.4. A$75.00feewillbeassessedforareturnedChapterCheck.
