Six Practices that Harm

By Dr. Sylvia Hargrave

YOUR EYES

According to a recentstudy, 70% of peoplewould rather lose a

limb instead of losingtheir sight. If you'resomeone who valuestheir sight, then takea look at this list ofways to protect your

eyes!

Rather than just a simplefashion accessory, sunglasses

protect your eyes from thesun's UV rays. Be sure to wear

sunglasses year-round, andmake sure that they cover your

entire eye.

NO PROTECTION

EYEDROP-HAPPY

Many people use eyedrops to moisturize dry eyes, but excessive use can lead to eye irritationbecause eyedrops restrict blood vessels. If you use eyedrops, do so sparingly.

SCREEN TIME

Spending time staring at screens, especially ones very close to yourface, can damage your eyes. Try to

keep brightness settings lower, keep a healthy distance betweenyou and your devices, and takebreaks from screens about once

every 20 minutes.

SCREEN TIME

Be sure that you never clean your contacts with water. Replacethem once every few months or when they get too old in order to

keep them sanitary and prevent eye infections.

IMPROPER CONTACT CARE

OLD MAKEUPBacteria can grow in warm, darkplaces, so using a mascara brushthat is a few months old can lead

to an eye infection. Regularlyreplace any makeup that you put

on or near your eyes.

Although most people consider thehealth of their eyes to be veryimportant, they don't visit their

eye doctor nearly as often as theyshould. Schedule an appointmentwith your ophthalmologist to giveyour eyes the care they deserve!
