Geo Layer VS Vision Layer
Geo layer - A geo-location based layer shows AR content that is
attached to a specific location, for instance, information on
transformer, Substation, Pole, Meter etc. Since 2009 an open
standard is in use, recently updated to ARML 2.0
Vision Layer - This is the most used layer within Augmented
Reality, because with this layer you can create interactive scenes
which are based on recognition of an object. To recognize an
object, you need information about the object. AR solution
providers currently adopting (SLAM)

Common Technologies used for tracking Objects
ID Marker tracking (most used for Marketing AR)
Image tracking (most used for Marketing AR)
Extended Image tracking
Object tracking (3d recognition / edge recognition)
Environment/Scene tracking
Face tracking (used for retail and gaming)

AR Challenges to overcome
3D object recognition / edge recognition
Combined object tracking (GPS ID Marker edge)
Data standardization technical manual including shape files
Process integration AR as a standalone platform doesnt bring out the potential value
Social acceptance of wearable computing
Interoperability it should run on iOS, Android, Windows
-
AR for Utilities
Intelligence in Motion
-
AR part of Utilities mobility strategy
Combine Workorder GIS Asset data plus geo and vision layers
On / Off line mode
Data volumes
Bandwidth Lan/Wifi/LTE/G4/G3/GPRS
Limitation in GPS locations from sub meter to decimeter
From handheld to Wearable

Tensing contribution
Intelligence Work Management System - IWMS is a Utility specific collaboration platform for Field Workers
It provides configurable Apps for specific Utility roles on iOS, Android and Windows
Android has now Augmented Reality Vision Layers and Geo Layers to add tablet based AR. (iOS will follow soon)
Were working with wearable device vendors to integrate these APPs on to our IWMS platform
-
Augmented T-Line inspection
GPS and Edge recognition
